lol thats hilarious. Brings back so many memories haha.
Lol this thread has reminded of so many songs I haven't thought of for years. One of our teachers wrote a song for us to sing in assembly, it went something like 'In our village there are a few shops, selling milk, yoghurt and cheeeeeese. Fish and chips bacon and everything else, our God we thank you for these.' LOL I have no idea why I still remember it.

'Clean hands or dirty hands, brown eyes or blue, pale cheeks or rosy cheeks, Jesus loves you!' Our priest used to sing that while he strummed the same chord on his guitar (the same chord he strummed for 7 years).

omg the accompanying guitar :rofl: our priest never played, he just used to used to shout the words to hymns in a strange chanty kind of way, but sometimes we had this couple come in who we used to sing 'fun' songs with, and the man would somehow find a way to add in the same chord to every song! Memories....

I remember singing ' We are climbing, Jesus' ladder, ladder, we are climbing Jesus' ladder lader, we are climining Jesus' ladder ladder, children of the lord' nearly every time the priest came for assembly... I think it must have been one of his favourites. Another one we used to sing all the time was 'Shine Jesus shine' and 'You shall go out with joy and be led forth in peace' which was always followed up with a chanty sounding 'Jubilate everybody, serve the Lord in all your ways'

At harvest we always sang one that went 'Cauliflowers fluffy and cabbages green, strawberries sweeter than I've seen'

When we sang the 'Were you there' everyone used to shout that bit so it would be like 'I was COLD I was NAKED were you there, WERE YOU THERE?'

I remember getting kicked out of hymn practise for making actions to this really solemn song called The Servant King which had really dramatic lyrics like 'Hands that flung stars into space, to cruel nails surrendered' and went on about sacrifice and heavy loads.

I probably deserve this. I apoligise for my earlier bitterness.

That's a very honest response and I think you're a good example for the rest of this forum :smile: .
autumn days when the grass is jeweled
and the silk inside a chestnut shell
jet planes meeting in the air to be refueled
and all the things i love so well
but i musn't forgeeeeet
no i musn't forrrrrgeeeeet
so say a great big thankyou
i musn't forget
we had a church lady come in and we had to sing this:

I am a sheep (baa baa)
and I like to be well fed
But like a sheep (baa baa)
I'm a little stupid in the head
I go astray
most every day
oh what a trouble i must be!
-spoken- I'm glad I've got the good shepherd looking after me

ah-ha-ha-ha-baa-baa!

"He's got the whole world in is hands,
He's got the whole wide world, in his hands,
He's got the whole world in is hands,
He's got the whole world in his hands."

Yes, I remember us being forced into chanting these unimaginative hymns against our own will like hypnotised machines, regardless of our religious beliefs.

I remember this :biggrin:
JFJ
One more step along the world I go,
one more step along the world I go;
from the old things to the new
keep me traveling along with you:
Refrain:
And it's from the old I travel to the new;
keep me traveling along with you.

Round the corner of the world I turn,
more and more about the world I learn;
all the new things that I see
you'll be looking at along with me: Refrain

As I travel through the bad and good,
keep me traveling the way I should;
where I see no way to go
you'll be telling me the way, I know: Refrain

Give me courage when the world is rough,
keep me loving though the world is tough;
leap and sing in all I do,
keep me traveling along with you: Refrain

You are older than the world can be,
you are younger than the life in me;
ever old and ever new,
keep me traveling along with you: Refrain

And

When I needed a neighbour
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a neighbour
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

I was hungry and thirsty
Were you there, were you there?
I was hungry and thirsty
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

I was cold, I was naked
Were you there, were you there?
I was cold, I was naked
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

When I needed a shelter
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a shelter
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

When I needed a healer
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a healer
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

Wherever you travel
I'll be there, I'll be there.
Wherever you travel
I'll be there.
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
I'll be there.

Ahhhh the hellish memories are all coming back to me now :p:

"WHO MADE WHALES AND SNAILS AND QUAILS?
who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
who made bats and rats and cats?
who made everything?

and it ended with "GOD made everything"

we weren't even a religious school

I remember that and we weren't a religious school either!

When you think about it it's actually quite sick indoctrination of innocent minds :p:

"God made everything and if you disagree you will be DAMNED TO HELL, ALL OF YOUUUUU"

Is it sad that I know all the words off by heart? I think literally everyone sang it, I've just posted it on Facebook and had so many responses! Good times:smile:
