Re: B171 - Repeal of B132 - Railways bill
So after spending most of this term so far whining about bureaucratic nonsense, the Tories are now continuing to avoid any policy-making that might actually make a difference and instead wasting their time on petty childish vengeful attempts at repealing an excellent piece of legislation?

Re: B171 - Repeal of B132 - Railways bill
Where a party has a right to put forward legislation that it believes to be right and true, and the Conservative Party believe this to be legislation which is in the true interest of the people of Britain. Considering it was a priority of the Hon. Gentleman to ensure 'That Britain never goes back to the days of the dark ages under National Rail' as Deputy Prime Minister then its amazing his U-Turn.

Re: B171 - Repeal of B132 - Railways billAlternatively, you're standing in the name of progress by trying to stymy bills that passed in something that is only going to turn into childish tit for tat behaviour rather than trying to do anything for the people of Britain.(Original post by Matthew_Lowson)

Re: B171 - Repeal of B132 - Railways billTreachery? Oh yes, because a coalition having a greater number of seats and thus a bigger mandate is treacherous.(Original post by Matthew_Lowson)
So cheating, and treachery is a common theme with the Front tbqh.
And this is coming from a man who described me as a man of conviction, desperately needed in politics.
And when on earth did I say anything of the sort? -

Re: B171 - Repeal of B132 - Railways billOnly nationalising the railways will allow for widespread improvements to be made and consistent pricing to be implemented. Various rail franchises as part of a privatised network often have their own vested interests and this causes consultation periods to take far longer than they should. If we want a railway network fit for the 21st century, we must maintain a nationalised network.

De-nationalising public services only seves to limit the ability of the population to move around, and liberal choice. It stagnates the economy.(Original post by Birchington)

But what do the facts matter... -
Re: B171 - Repeal of B132 - Railways billThose "facts" are misleading. There was a boom in the 60s and 70s in car ownership which took people off the railways on onto the motorways. The time at which your graph rises represents growing awareness of climate change - particularly in the decade we're currently in - which has driven people back onto mass transit systems.(Original post by Collingwood)

Statistics do not alone prove anything: context is vital.
