Re: [Wiki Guide] Laptop Buying AdviceThat means nothing to anyone - guarantee for what? What does it even cover? Under what conditions will they replace/repair the laptop?(Original post by ...mo...)
Gurantees
1 year: Part of package
2 years: 74.99
3 years: 99.99
Is it worth it and how often do the guarantees become useful? -
Re: [Wiki Guide] Laptop Buying Advice
Hi, I'm looking for a laptop for uni in September. My priorities are in this order
looks
portability
gaming/performance
So, gaming-wise my laptop will be used mostly for playing PES, so nothing serious. But I would like to sometimes be able to play some games on low/med settings.
I would like a 15-17'' laptop, not over 6 lbs. I have around 1000£ to spend, maybe a little more if need be. No need for blu-ray, WiDi, bluetooth. Backlit keyboard and webcam would be a nice touch, but not necessary.
So far, my favourite is http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817....asp?tab=Specs
Is this good, do any of you have any suggestions or similar or better laptops?
Thanks! -
Re: [Wiki Guide] Laptop Buying AdviceThe Sony Vaio S 15 would be a good choice. Has a full HD IPS screen, 640M LE Kepler based Nvidia graphics and all the extras you've mentioned. Buy through the Sony education store, deselect McAfee protection and Adobe Creation suite, and price totals to £850.(Original post by isusovaca)

The first link is the one your looking at on pcmag, the 2nd one is a more newer tech version.
These are also equally capable and cheaper:

The last one in particular is good value, it isn't overkill completely for your needs, GT650M and an i5 will play games pretty and will do everything else just fine for £680.
I decided to just look at Samsung as it seems like you like their design. -
Re: [Wiki Guide] Laptop Buying AdviceThan it's gone and you got to buy another one.......unless you got some sort of insurance(Original post by bmqib)

Re: [Wiki Guide] Laptop Buying AdviceWell you wouldn't get student discount if you get it through uncle to be fair and seems quite costly(Original post by bmqib)

Re: [Wiki Guide] Laptop Buying Advicehttp://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_...66/version.asp(Original post by Quexx)
Hey guys
I want a reasonably cheap laptop (ie <£500) which has the following:
- Intel core i5 processor
- At least 6GB RAM
- Minimum of 500GB HDD
- DVD-RW
- 15.6" screen
If you can find one less than £400, you can get some rep =)
old 2nd gen though, Acer have had some issues recently so be careful
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Lenov...UK/version.asp
recommend definitely, ram is easy to upgrade, 4gb stick costs about £20 to stick in yourself
or 6gb version for £20 http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Lenov...UK/version.asp
Whats the purpose of the laptop? -
University work and online gaming :-)(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: [Wiki Guide] Laptop Buying AdviceVirtual skipping??? if thats VSK5 than that should be fine on that.(Original post by Quexx)
Mostly LFS and VSK5 :-)
I do like the Lenovo one with 6gb, it hardly matters that's it's over £400. I'll give you some rep tomorrow, cos I'm on my phone now ;-)

LFS if that is live for speed, than it should be fine. -
Re: [Wiki Guide] Laptop Buying AdviceI wouldn't be too sure, but with any laptop over a long time, you'll get quite a bit of heat to be honest. So make sure ventilation is good(Original post by Quexx)
Yep that's them.
Also does this laptop overheat much? With constant use?
