Thanks for the reply, if shogun would require too much I can sacrifice playing high end games for saving me some moneys, in reference to Acer id prefer a make that isn't unreliable. Thanks

this is £550, but it comes with cash back so its under £500, 3rd gen i5, 8gb of ram, 1tb..... and a gt630m which can play BF3 so I expect it to play shogun total war. But shogun 2 does lag when you get up close to the action in the real time gameplay.

Thanks for the reply, this looks really good compared to ones I've seen previously. Might consider getting it, esp.considering other websites have this exact model at 700+. However unsure if I would be able to claim the cashback in time as the offer ends on the 28th of this month. Other than that thanks

Thanks, so even if the offer ends 28th, if I order tomorrow all shall be ok? (assuming what you just wrote it shall be - sorry I just haven't bought anything big online before so get worried) But thankyou, probably nip round Currys/PC World/Comet tomorrow to see what crap they've got and then most likely order this

I believe it should, as you have to wait after 30 days before you can apply for the cashback.

I think someone has ordered one, the only good one out there I suppose, its good value well looking into higher specs, though you should look at other makes for specs before deciding.
Thinking of getting a new laptop. Preferably a 2nd gen/3rd gen i5/7 with a good graphics card (555m/630m/650m or the AMD equivalents), and 1080p screen. Don't particularly care about RAM/HD/Blu-ray. Budget is about £500-£600ish.

Is the screen 1080p though? The specs are pretty decent for the price but I've seen similar deals elsewhere. It'll mainly be for watching movies and browsing the internet, but I'll also be playing some games from time to time. What laptops are generally considered the best when it comes to resistance to overheating? Used to have a Dell XPS which reached 80C when gaming, not sure if that's normal for other laptops.

As far as I'm aware screens in the price range are 1368 x 768 ish in resolution, so 1080p wouldn't really work, I know sometimes they state it as HD, but it'll use all the pixels just not the 1080p screen resolution.
I completely haven't got a clue, you got include other factors, which games, what settings, duration of game play, etc
if its a serious amount, you need to think about a cooling pad, a good one like the coolermaster u3, so you get good ventilation and place the fans where needed.

I'm ordering a laptop from PCspecialist that I'm intending to use for gaming - the only thing I'm confused about is the processor (you have to configure your own laptop). Quad core or dual core, what Hz...? I'm hopeless with tech! xD

Depends on how much you want to spend.......i5 is ideal for gaming, however they have 2 less real cores on the i5 version on a laptop, whereas most of the i7s are quad cores and 8 threads, yet i7's aren't ideal for gaming, as they can be worse for performance, depends entirely on other uses and your opinion.

Hi all, i seem to be in the same position as most people on here. I am trying to find a Laptop for general use, movies, downloading, cd/dvd burning etc. £500 is my limit, but there is so many to choose from. I just want one that is going to have a good battery life, but is also going to last longer than a year or two. Thanks

If you can afford to spend an extra £99 (after cashback) then this is pretty good:
http://www.johnlewis.com/231656611/Product.aspx

It's got an Ivybridge i5 which should be more than enough for your needs, 8GB RAM for multi-tasking and is partly SSD so windows will load up much faster. Battery life is decent and screen is better than a lot of other laptops (though still not 1080p). Samsung laptops tend to be pretty good quality and it includes a 3 year warranty as opposed to most other places which only offer 1 year which in my opinion should justify spending slightly above your limit. Only problem would be if you were planning on playing games on it, though even then it could still probably play most games you throw at it (though mostly on low/medium settings)
Trying to find a decent netbook that is portable, good on battery life but has a somewhat decent processor to allow me to multi-task on it. (I love my multiple tab online browsing) Looking to pay between £200 and £300. Anyone have any suggestions?
Is this any good? - http://www.ebuyer.com/391954-samsung-355v5c-laptop-np355v5c-a05uk?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products

Intended use for it is is just for general browsing, watching stuff on iplayer etc

I have this which I used alongside my laptop during my final year of uni: http://www.gogodigital.co.uk/samsung-nc110-am1uk-atom-n550-dual-core-black-netbook-1gb-250gb.html

It's been excellent. I upgraded to the 2GB ram. During my dissertation I had roughly 20 tabs open alongside word and several powerpoint presentations. I'm still not sure how it coped with all that but it did!

I am no longer suggesting laptops for each price bracket due to other commitments, but you may quote for any general advice.

Hi, I need some help in choosing a new laptop. I've been looking around online but I am totallyconfused about what I need in terms of processor. I'm looking for 6 or 8 gb ram and at least 600 gb harddrive. Mostly I will only need the laptop for internet, itunes, the odd bit of word processing and a fair amount of football manager. I won't be doing any other gaming.

So these are the ones I've been looking at so far. In terms of cost I don't really want to spend more than 700, especially since its not going to be in heavy duty use.

You don't even need much for your needs, an i3, 4gb of ram and what amount of hard drive space is more then enough for your needs.
So all the ones linked are quite overkill, unless you actually want a more powerful processor....
