Re: Ask the speaker
What does the speaker think is the point to the Liberal Democrat question time thread if they are unable to answer questions regarding their political philosophy. Indeed, whilst other parties have answered the same questions without resorting to personal attacks, ad hom's and ignoring the question.
Mr Speaker, i move that the Liberal Democrat question time thread be merged with the Monster-Raving Loony Party thread in order to assist individuals with a fence so far up their rear it extends to their brain in answering intelligent questions. -

Re: Ask the speakerA ridiculous idea. You'll find myself and other party members have given answers to a multitude of questions on both personal ideology and policy. The fact you haven't asked a question of us is probably why you're not getting a reply.(Original post by paperclip)

JPKC: "can you explain how the inequal rights that monarchy entails are reconciled with your party's ostensible liberalism?"
Me: Do you believe the lack of a solid liberal democrat consensus against the monarchy undermines the core principles of a liberal democracy that your party strive for? -

Re: Ask the speakerAs you know, I'm a republican. You're best to QFA the monarchists you wish to speak to directly in case they have not seen your questions.(Original post by paperclip)

Re: Ask the speakerBut the LibDems are now the new MRLP so it does make sense...(Original post by Morgsie)
I urge the Speaker to ignore the question. It does not make sense in practical terms to merge the ask a Lib Dem thread with ask a MRLP.

Re: Ask the speakerI'm not as short tempered as you!(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)
Ha, well you won't have seen his private dressing downs. T&J is a Liberal Democrat through and through and the one thing Liberal Democrats always do is stab people in the back.
IIRC, this revolved around allegations of him protecting one particular member of the Lib Dems. I believe T&J had words with him also, but putting that aside, I do sometimes wonder if in fact your bias against the Liberal Democrats is clouding your judgement. The member could have been of any party and T&J's actions would have been the same. But as it was an ex Lib Dem Speaker appearing to protect a Lib Dem leader, it seemed like bias to you. What I think would have been worse is if Thunder and Jazz had picked up on that and ignored his instincts on what would have been the best and fairest course of action for fear of what it looked like.
Btw, in response to the posts about my impartiality in response to Birchington, I can see how it might have appeared that way, but really the inconsistency in the application of the rule was down to my earlier ignorance, stupidity and inexperience!

Re: Ask the speakerThere isn't a procedure regarding emergency motions. They are posted in the order they are received.(Original post by Morgsie)
Is there any procedures regarding Emergency Motions?
I want to get a Motion on the Floor ASAP in response to the latest violence in Syria -
Re: Ask the speaker1) You join a party and get selected for a seat, or you win a seat independently in a general (or by-) election.(Original post by rachie22)
Mr Speaker,
A few questions:
1) How do you become an MP?
2) And when is the next General Election?
3) How do the campaigns work?
4) How do you become a party leader?
Thanks
2) When the PM calls it. It has to be before Septemberish I think.
3) All parties/candidates decide on and submit a manifesto (see the Guidance Document for more details)!
4) Varies depending on the Party. For instance, the Socialist Party doesn't have a leader.
(I'm not the Speaker btw. Just a helpful citizen.)Last edited by JPKC; 30-05-2012 at 18:33. -

Just to let you know, if you're interested, TSR Labour will be electing a reserve deputy leader soon (as a stand-in for when the Leader or deputy leader is absent). However, I'd suggest being an MP for a short while before putting yourself up for party leader/deputy leader.
Have a great time - always good to see new members with us! (like me a few months ago) -

Re: Ask the speakerYeah, I suppose timing isn't the main issue in the MHoC, but it's just a bit of advice for someone who's new to politics.(Original post by MacCuishy)

I believe you should get used to the consitutition, writing bills/motions etc before assisting leading a party as it means that you'll perform better when you receive a leadership role.
