Red face Do you only write one Personal Statement?

Do you write one Personal Statement for each university you apply to (especially if you're applying for different courses), or is the same PS submitted to cover your whole application?

Yup, what Alex-R said. This is why generally people apply to similar subjects so it shows that you really want to do a certain course.

1 personal statement, 5 universities.

People don't even want to write 1 personal statement, let alone 5.

Only one, though it is worth mentioning that it is a slightly different system if you're applying for some art courses- can't quite remember the specifics now, so I don't want to confuse you, but I believe (if someone knows better, please correct me) that for Route B courses (?) you have the opportunity to ammend your PS after receiving Route A offers.

Basically, only one, and this gets sent to all 5 universities. Check if you're applying for arty stuff (though it's normal for art subjects such as BA History of Art etc.)

Yeah, I've heard this, and I'd be interested to know whether there's an official source?

One personal statement, although after applying some universities will ask for further details including another personal statement (eg Cambridge).

There is an official source. It is called UCAS, and it can be found here: http://www.ucas.com/students/startap...ment/keypoints

It says:

Remember that you only write one personal statement so it will be used for all your choices.

Don't listen to rumours.

Well yes, I know that that's their current position, but I was wondering whether there's any news (from a reliable source) of them planning to change that.

That section of the website is for 2010 applicants; it has only recently been posted. They aren't going to change the rules this late, having organised systems and agreements with universities at great trouble and then publicised them, are they?

I wrote about 3 different personal statements. I had my main one on my UCAS form, and then I adapted it slightly for different courses and sent them to specific unis I had applied for.
