TOMMY!!!
Hi, I want to study medicine at uni but don't know which ones to apply for. London Imperial looks a good choice, I want a city uni thats got a good medical rep and has more to offer me than just the degree. I need one that's in a busy and interesting place with a good night life. Any ideas?

It's most likely UCL, but i really like Barts though :p:

Obviously London, at Imperial you won't get to socialise with arts students from your uni (cos there aren't any), but there are other really good ones like UCL.
Leeds is a rocking place to be.
Nottingham and Newcastle have good reputations.
Or Bristol or Edinburgh...
Or any! There are loads!!

Tootin' is pretty lively at night...though whether you make it back alive is another matter - but hey, that just makes it more interesting right?

Newcastle, obviously :p:
Medical students are likely to say the school that they trained/are training/hope to train at. Really "the best" is completely subjective as personally I wouldn't want to live in London for example. Things to consider are the course structure and method of teaching, location, distance from home, university facilities, atmosphere, the surroundings, accomodation...it goes on forever.
Try to visit the medical schools on open days or the cities if you can't make certain dates, as I feel the atmosphere and first impression you get from a place has a much bigger influence than how good it looks in the prospectus.

That's true :sigh: however, the eventual reality (medics sticking to medics) is the same at any other university. Also, you're in London, with a not insignificant number of arts students/members of the opposite sex to mingle with :woo:

OP, there's no "best overall medical school" - each has its own merits. Personally I thought Imperial/UCL were fantastic due to strong scientific emphasis + unparalleled (in this country anway) London clinical experience
Lawl, somebody should really make a sticky about "the best medical school". Having to type "there is no best" is getting really old and I havn't even been on here long.

This is the main criteria you should look at for your uni choices:
1) Location. You need to be happy and reasonably excited about living in a certain place for 5 years (luckily Swindon and Bognor Regis do not have Med Schools :ahee:).
2) Teaching Style. Do you want traditional (i.e. mostly lectures), PBL (problem based learning, case study type things) or a mix of both?
3) Social/Extra-Curricular. You got to ask yourself, is it happenin.' Does it happen every night. Or has it never happened? If its the first, welcome to Manchester. If its the latter, welcome to St Andrews. Bad Times*

*No offence, I'm just jestin'

I like your avatar. It pleases me.

OP, no one can answer this question for you. It really has to be your choice. Which city excites you and what do you aim to do outside medicine? Read Uni prospecti( word?) as they often try and give you a feel of the city in which they are based.
blatently Oxford is the best place to be. Im not biased in any way shape or form :yep:
