Re: Open University Chat Thread
I haven't been on here for ages. Just submitted TMA02 for K260 which I completed in under 24 hrs, now on to revision for the K101 exam which is on 15th June.
Wish the new study routes were available from last year as I'm really not liking Health & Social Care at present and the Health Sciences is looking much better than it did before, none of those 10 pointer modules.
Anyone had fiance confirmed for next year yet? They are assessing mine at the moment.
Only 2 more years to go!!!!! -
Re: Open University Chat ThreadYep - my finance has gone through! Don't worry - it seems to be taking longer than usual this year. They've probably got a lot of changes going on with the transition & new students, and they're changing over of a lot of modules and degree plans...(Original post by dg2009)

Re: Open University Chat ThreadI'd given up on the idea tbh cos I'd been disheartened by the service I work for at the minute.. But the way things are going nowhere will train new people up any more on their own budget. C1 cost me £2000 when I was 19 (failed twice) but if I hadn't done it I wouldn't have got the job I'm doing.(Original post by dg2009)
Bleak that's so what I want to do, though I know I wouldn't be able to pay the fees
or have a C1 license.
Some trusts actually train you for C1
Tbh tho you say you couldn't afford the fees, however on this for for LAS it's a 5 year training program where you start off on about £1500 / month after tax and it increases every year to about £2600 post tax once you qualify.. Fees would be £10,000 which is only £167 per month over the 5 years which seems doable (plus tonnes of overtime on the go).. You should stick in for it. -
Re: Open University Chat ThreadStill nothing for me(Original post by sputum)
ms221 tma4 back today 98% yay
no confirmed fiance for next year tho
hope yours passes
I'll have gotten >90% tho I think.. rushed it a bit with it being the last one and I just wanted to revise!

Re: Open University Chat Thread
MS221 revision is all coming together!!
95% confident I'll get 70%, so pretty sure I'll get a 2:1 at least.
Not yet so confident that I'll manage 85%+ which I'd be over the moon with being my first exam.
Haven't really started revising for part 2. Got work for the next 5 nights and then camping Monday to Thursday next week which gives me 7 full days revision prior to the exam. I'm pretty sure this will be enough! -
Re: Open University Chat ThreadI have studied DSE212 and ED209, I was planning to do the psychology degree, but I didn't do very well in either of my exams, so if I get in am going to do a distance learning conversion course with Derby University instead.(Original post by Simone.xox)
Anyone studying Criminology and Psychological studies.
I'm starting in October & I would love to hear that I'm not the only one
-
Re: Open University Chat ThreadI am studying exploring psychology (DSE212), how did you find the course? It's my first experience with distance learning & I'm nervous!(Original post by ~ Purple Rose ~)

Re: Open University Chat ThreadI enjoyed it, it is good because you get to do a bit of a lot of things, rather than focus on one topic(Original post by Simone.xox)

Have you studied psychology before, I did psychology A level & I did start a degree at MMU in psychology & sociology, I'm just wondering if I'm going to be going over a lot of old material! -
Re: Open University Chat ThreadI studied psychology as part of my first degree, so some things were familiar, which does help slightly, although you will probably study them from a different angle than you have etc, but isn't essential because they take you through it at a pace where you have time to work on it even if you don't have any prior knowledge(Original post by Simone.xox)

I guess I'm at a slight advantage then! -

Re: Open University Chat Thread
Can you believe I only just got my OUSA ID card in the post today? I only applied for it a few days ago though tbh. On the flipside it lasts until next year but by then I'll either be on another ddegree or hopefully earning enough money not to rely on discounts.
either way it will be a nice memento of my time as an OU student....until the degree results come back. -
Re: Open University Chat ThreadIf it's the difference between a 2:2 and a 2:1 then I'd totally go for it! I plan on doing hard L3 modules like electromagnetism and fluid mechanics.. but if I struggle on my other L3s and have a chance of a 2:2/3rd if I do bad on them then I'll probs just do easier moduled :P(Original post by bufferz)
Anyone ooking at T213 for a course? Im thinking of binning off T356 as I got a grade 4, and if I go for this instead, I can guarantee a 2:1 (As long as I dont bugger the exam up, like I did wwith 356
)

Re: Open University Chat Thread
I'm a bit worried abuot level 3 but someoen on my current course said she is finding it easier than the one we are doing atm. So I am hopeful. I'm only doing one course next year since it's level 3. I can't believe I'm graduating from the OU in two years
(yes it seems like ages away but the first two years went sooo quick. Can't believe I'm halfway through my 4th module!)

Re: Open University Chat Thread
Hi,
I am trying to figure out how many more module and credits I need to claim my BA (Hons) International Studies. While examining the available options , I've found this: ''Or, subject to the rules about excluded combinations, the discontinued modules A213, AD252, D214, D215, D216, D271, DD200, DDZX200, DT210, L210 paired with L302, L213 paired with L303, L221/LL221 paired with L224, L230/LL230 paired with L231, LL203, LL204, LZX203*, LZX204, LZX211, U205, U206, U210, U212''
and:
''Or subject to the rules about excluded combinations, the discontinued modules AA300, AAZX300, AT308, B300, D308, D312, D316, DD302, DD304, DU310, L210 paired with L302/LZX302, L303 paired with L213, LZX310, LZX313, LZX314''.
What, on earth, are these 'excluded combinations' and 'discounted modules'? I try to find what these symbols mean but so far I've only managed to find one module which ended in October 2011... So annoying. Can anyone help me, please? Where should I look for these modules? Thanks. -

Discontinued modules means a module you can't take any more. They've stopped running it. For example, they've stopped running Y159.
Excluded modules means you can't do certain modules together. Usually because they're too similar, or sometimes because a discontinued module has been replaced. For example, Y159 has been replaced with Y179. You can't study both those courses as they're essentially the same so you'd be getting double points for the same thing.
Have you played with the qualifications planner in studenthome?
hope yours passes
or have a C1 license.
MS221 revision is all coming together!!
