Default Flavoured condoms cause thrush!?
 
I'm male and 16 years old.

I'm really worried. I used some flavoured condoms about a month of two ago for oral sex (my girlfriend gave me a blow job) and then we had sex using it afterwards.

My friends were talking the other day about how it can cause a yeast infection if used for penetrative sex, and can give you thrush.

I have noticed recently that my scrotum has been a bit itchy and it does sting a tiny bit after having sex. Maybe I'm just being paranoid after what my friends said...

Is this all true? SHould i just buy some medicine like cannesten duo and take it? I don;t really want to go to the doctor. Is there harm in taking some mediicne if i don't ahve thrush? Like just take it as a precaution?

Beofre you ask, my girlfriend has noticed no symptons at all.

I thought the reason some condoms were flavoured was because they were for oral sex only. Although don't be scared or embarrassed to visit a doctor about it if it reallyworries you. Afterall that's what doctors are for.

Well, I was questioning if you were serious about using flavoured condoms for sex. Why on earth would you do that, can your girlfriend taste with her vagina? :P

I think your friend was right to state that flavoured condoms can cause thrush. Candida albicans (a yeast which is present and harmless in many people) is also an opportunistic pathogen and will spread if the conditions are suitable. The vagina is sensitive to changes in pH and using a flavoured condoms could do just that.

Oh, my mistake. Yeah definitely not from the condom. His girlfriend is a much more likely explanation.

OP, I wouldn't recommend taking medication without medical advice, go to your doctor - he has seen it all before.

BAD hygiene causes thrush! Wash after sex if you think it's the condoms.

If not, get your girlfriend tested...

They do for me, but so does the glycerin in water-based lube. I am very very prone to YIs apparently.

In any case I believe this is because it alters vaginal pH - to my knowledge pH isn't such an issue for men so you're unlikely to have got it from the condom.

I often wondered about "sweet" condoms/lube. Sugar is known is feed the yeast which causes thrust. So maybe, I guess. Men can get thrush, though it's less likely as men parts are easier to clean

Oh yeah, I forgot about the above ^^ ja, there is diferent bacteria in a vagina too which reacts badly to men's bits, often making them rashy etc... so make sure SHE is v. clean too then!

obviously rubbish, you think they would be able to sell a thrush causing contraceptive? get real.
