Hi I'm looking into Athena as a back up if i dont get Birmingham halls! Anyone here in the same boat or already confirmed to live in Athena Studios?

I got an email from the university that all rooms are allocated. They sent me links so I'm looking into Athena as well and clv birmingham. I was not able to get a hold of them yet because of different time zones

Is this true for postgraduates too? If so, I'd be really disappointed as I've had an unconditional offer for ages now! :frown:

Please help! Anyone familiar with Birmingham as I am not from the UK. For rooms I have 3 choices
1. Athena studios
2.Metchley Hall
3. Clv Birmingham

Any suggestions would be appreciated as my choices are very limited now. Thank you!!!

Call them and ask. I believe they have separate rooms allocated for post grads. Not sure if any are available. Gluck!

Metchley hall is quite nice and just a short walk to UOB. Clv is quite a distance, you would have to get public transport. Athena is also a distance near Clv so again you would have to get public transport.

Ah accommodation has been allocated. Luckily I rung up otherwise I would still be waiting.
I'm now considering Brook Studios. The on-site gym is a big plus for me. Is anyone else looking to go here?

Edit: secured my deposit for a studio.

I'm waiting as well! Really really want Jarratt Hall, but any accommodation would be nice. I've only been unconditional for a few weeks, but I applied months and months ago. It's a shame that UK PG students just have to wait and see.

It's a nice studio. But with train and transportation it's about half hour I was told. I'm considering it but I prefer walking distance

I was told that all university owned accom has been fully allocated for this year. They sent me an e-mail with a list of other options, which I'll paste here in case anyone needs it. I hope this helps anyone who hasn't heard anything yet.

Alternative to options from the Guarantee scheme
1. House shares and private rented accommodation:
There is a good supply of student shared houses in the local area.
A House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) can range from three to seven bed properties and involves sharing the communal spaces such as the kitchen, lounge and bathroom. Please note when looking into this option utilities and internet are not usually included so you will have to consider this when budgeting for a property. If you would like to explore this option further then we offer the following university approved services who work only with MLAS (Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme) accredited landlords to ensure properties are of a certain quality and standard.

Birmingham Studentpad is the University’s official property search engine offering not only a search engine to find suitable rooms within houses or whole houses, but also an online message board where you can advertise that you are looking for rooms or flatmates. All of the landlords and agents are accredited and agree to the code of practice.

Website: www.birminghamstudentpad.co.uk
E-mail: [email protected]
Telephone: 0121 414 8000

You can also view the list of available properties at Guild Lettings, a lettings service managed by the Guild of Students and is the University’s preferred lettings agent. Guild Lettings work only with accredited landlords to help increase the quality of accommodation on offer to students. Guild Lettings also do not charge any administration fees to students. Please view a list of available properties on the Guild Lettings website. If you find a property that you like then contact them directly at [email protected] so that they are able to arrange viewings and advise you further.

2. House Hunting Event
If you would be interested in living in shared houses in the private sector as an alternative to purpose built student accommodation, then we are also holding a three day residency house hunting event for international students from Sunday 13 September to Wednesday 16 September 2015. For more information and costs please see our website: http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/undergraduate/accommodation/House-hunting-event-2015.aspx

I wanted Jarrett halls or Victoria halls but given Mason which I'm not keen on. If anyone would like Mason and swap please PM me. I would even consider swapping with other halls too.

Just out of interest what don't you like about Mason? Loads of people who wanted it didn't get it so I'm sure you'll find someone to swap with!!
