Whats it like?

I got an uncondition offer from city the other day to do computer science. I would like to know what the uni is like from students who are studying there or have been there? Whats the general atmosphere like is it good for socialising? I'm going to be living aty home and commuting everyday so will I meet people and have a social group there? I think i'm a bit late to do a campus tour and visit the uni as it was a very late application. Hope someon can help me out and give me some information  Thanks

There is less going on that other London unis and there isn't much going on at the SU, but you should be able to meet people from your course and on freshers week. There is plenty to do as a student in London so hopefully the lack of a decent social activities at the uni wont be too much of a problem for you.

Having said that, I intend to put in some effort to make the uni a bit more exciting place socially from september, hopefully with some impact.

MysteryMan - you might be able to do a campus tour on a weds afternoon, as they normally happen weekly. You can book a place here by filling in the form, but you may have to contact them by email/telephone if no dates are avail.

Yeah, if I decide to go to City for Computer Science I would definately help you out with sorting out some social night and activities. Did you have a look around the uni? Can you tell me anything about it?

well I don't remember a lot of it (a 30min tour isn't much) but the area is nice and the people there seemed nice. I was shown an accomodation (I don't remember which one) and the rooms/kitchen and they were ok.
Most of the buildings aren't very pretty from the outside but inside some of them were really cool. The library was ok really, like the other unis' libraries I went to.
There will surely be someone here who can tell you more anyway!
I went on a tour of the campus and accommodation back in April.
They seem to have spent a large sum of money on refurbishing the library and College building. This includes spending over 1 million pounds on the new Arts School facilities which were opened recently.
There is also a new Student Centre, and the SU Bar Ten2 was refurbished about a year ago I think.
There also seems to be huge refurbishment of the green space outside the Campus (Northampton Square itself) to make it more plesant. The plans were on show inside the entrance to Ten2.

We also toured one of the halls of residence (I think Peartree Court???) which was very dated - but it depends on what you are used to. Apparently not all the halls look like this, and there is also a difference between undergrad and postgrad halls so view your hall if you can.

Does anyone know if the Library and lecture rooms has wifi?? I think they are expanding the service in the library??

Other than that I really can't comment on teaching as I too will be a postgrad student in the School of computing (Informatics) so have no idea.
Not sure if any of this is helpful - if you want to see what the SU is upto for Freshers fortnight then take a look at their Facebook page, if you use facebook.

Yes I noticed that when I went to get the link for the form, but was not sure iof it was an error at their end with the form. Best to phone them up and ask. No doubt they will have courses in clearing and will surely do something then.... makes sense?
