Default Resolution 2009/06 - Concerning the Situation in Honduras

Committee: Political and Security
Submitted by: The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

The General Assembly,

Noting the coup d’état that took place in Honduras on 28 June 2009, which removed the democratically elected President, Manuel Zelaya, and his government from power,
Concerned by the breakdown of the democratic and constitutional order that has led to the compromise of democracy and the rule of law in Honduras and stability in the wider region of Central America,
Deeply concerned by the acts of violence against diplomatic personnel and officials in Honduras,
Reaffirming the United Nations' commitment to democracy and political stability,

1. Condemns the coup d’état in Honduras that has interrupted the democratic and constitutional order and the legitimate exercise of power in Honduras, and resulted in the removal of the democratically elected President, Manuel Zelaya;
2. Demands the immediate and unconditional restoration of the legitimate President, Manuel Zelaya, so that he may fulfil the role for which he was democratically elected by the Honduran people;
3. Calls on the international community to recognise no government other than that of the Constitutional President, Manuel Zelaya;
4. Expresses its firm support for the regional efforts being undertaken by the Organisation of American States and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas to restore stability to Honduras.
