They don't only want people who can do sport. A lot of people are general counsellors who don't specialise in anything, or are specialists in other things, like arts and crafts.
Your experience should be enough, I think a lot of people go when they have only babysat before.
I'm definitely applying. Thanks for creating this thread!!
The applications are open for Australia and New Zealand now but not for the UK. So frustrating!
I ordered the brochure but they havn't sent it to me yet which is quite annoying. May have to try downloading it again!
If you think you are going to need to be in the UK for clearing though, that could be a problem as could some of the paperwork. But if you start your 9 weeks in June then you might be able to return to the UK by results day.
Was that for a CCUSA brochure, i ordered one ages ago, it never arrived.
But anywho ive applied for CCUSA. Completed the application, all i need to do is send off my passport photos.
It also says on the form to send references, but i supplied email addresses, how am i supposed to send references, do i have to send the paper form as well? Or will they just contact them through the emails i provided?
Im hoping to be placed in an Arty camp, but also want adventure *fingers crossed*
Im missing my graduation to go to camp, i must be mad

Make it fun. Have your certificate sent to camp and make a fuss of it - any excuse for a song, a shoutout, some camp fire marshmellows and extra cup of cocoa!
I wanted to do Camp America b4 as a support staff- but they say I'm not eligible as I would be a graduate . I can't handle being a camp counsellor- all those children and I'm not 'bouncy' or outgoing enough! Hmph. Wish I did it when I was uni!
I'm thinking about applying to work in the office at a Canadian camp with CCUSA. Not sure when applications open though, think its later than for the American camps. Will keep checking. Its exciting!

I'm thinking about this too. Just checked CCUSA and found you don't have to be a student in order to apply. Good news for me ...guess I'll keep checking as well.

That's what I'm applying for as well
Do you know how much we have to pay altogether? On the site it doesn't make it clear what the total is.

That's why I am applying to Canada - I'm having a bit of a break from my course so won't be a full-time student for the whole of the acadeic year, which you have to be.

No I don't know how much we have to pay, I really need to email them soon, but last year applications for Canada opened quite a while after applications for America so I think we have a while. How much office experience do you have? I have a fair bit, but not sure how it would compare to everyone else. I just wanna get on with it and apply now! Even though it is really really early.

You don't have to be a student? Oooh this sounds good!

I'm glad I'm not the only one applying to Canada
I'm the same as you, taking a break and only a student Jan-May and only in like 4 hours a week. Would have prefered America, stupid visa requirements! Canada sounds good though, need to do more research!
Also, does anyone know when the applications open for this?

I know camp america don't let you have a friend go with you as you won't necessarily be placed at the same camp but does CCUSA let you ?
From the CCUSA FAQ page:
Q: I want to work on the same camp as my friend / boyfriend. Can you place us together?
A: It is very difficult for us to place friends together at the same camp and we cannot guarantee this will be possible, though we'll try! Consider the possibility of going to different camps and meeting up afterwards to travel together. Alternatively, if you are a student, consider the Support Staff or Work Experience USA program. It can be difficult to place people together, as often Camp Directors are unwilling to accept joint applications. This can be for a number of reasons - sometimes people who already know each other integrate less with a group, camps may be worried that if one person doesn't enjoy the job or is homesick they will both leave and, in some cases, it may simply be that there is only one space available. CCUSA wants to ensure you both have 'perfect placements'. If you wish to be considered for placement with a friend, be sure to apply early and put your application forms in at the same time.
Wow, 2010 will be my third year doing camp america. I remember in 2008 on the plane ride over saying I wouldn't be someone who did it again and again, just once for the experience. Guess that isn't happening!
First year was the tennis specialist, 2009 a general counselor, 2010, hopefully a senior counselor, but would be willing to go back as a general counselor.
If anyone is considering doing it for the first time, DO IT!

Its gonna be my first time, i've applied for it.
But its likely this is the only time i will do it, the real world is looming!! AAHH
And does anyone know of any sites with a directory of camps? There was a directory on CCUSA website last year, but it's probably too early to put one up yet... Just wanted to get a head start really
