How do you embed a video from youtube onto a forum? I'm wanting to embed a video onto a message board hosted by freeforums, but haven't got a clue how.

Can anyone explain? Thanks.

I tried the code on the forum I need to embed the video too and it didn't work. I assume this is because it varies from forum to forum. Are there any other ways?

(Don't include the v= to avoid lots of white space.) Quote this post to see how I did it, I can't be arsed with noparse. This video's all about the audio. It's the best version of it I could find within three seconds on youtube.

Thanks for the explanation, although it still won't work. I quoted you and copied the URL you had used onto free forums and nothing came up. So it must be freeforums itself, I guess.

Oh, I see. I don't know how to do it on other forums, sorry. I should have read your post more clearly. Do you know what sort of coding your forum uses? TSR uses BBcode, whereas you're probably working with HTML or something.

I think it does use BBcode, actually. At least that works for hyperlinks.

Depends if the admin of your forum has enabled the youtube tags if they use BBCode.

edit: Just saw your post above, sounds like the tags just haven't been enabled.

That will only work if the forum allows html in posts.

A lot of forums disable 56k-busting features like posting Youtube videos. You will probably just have to post a link to the video instead.

It isn't wheither it is 'enabled' or not.. YouTube BB tags aren't a standard feature of vBulletin (the forum script used on TSR) - they are 3rd party scripts installed by the forum admin which are created by other PHP/MySQL coders.

That's HTML code, most forums have HTML in posts and signatures disabled - just like TSR.
