I really hope that this thread- as an older one I started about a completely different subject did- doesn't start a big debate about why scottish people should still apply in England even though we have to pay..
But basically I'm not allowed to apply down south. Its not my choice- I would have loved to apply to RVC in particular but it just stands that my parents (due to circumstances which only really belong in H&R category)really cannot afford it.
So I just wondered- should I stick to biological courses for my other choices in order to ensure my personal statement still fits with the course? Or should I try and go for others?

I'm sorry if you've already done all this but it's worthing checking the loan/grant you're entitled to. It might be quite large (and obviously you don't have to pay the grant back) and thus not require much/any parental input. It's also worth noting RVC is more expensive particuarly in terms of accomodation, but the loan is increased to match. Also, in terms of accomodation, some unis are much cheaper than others, for example I think liverpool has well priced accomodation. (though I might be wrong)
If you have no intention of taking up a biology offer then I would apply to other vet schools just for interview practise, I found that I got progressivly better with each interview, so it really could make up the difference between an offer and a rejection.
It's a shame your choices are limited to that extent. You seem very certain that there's no chance of applying down South being a possibility - so I'm going to assume you've explored every possible avenue and leave it at that.
In regards to filling your other slots... remember that none of the uni's can see any of the other courses you've applied to, so just choosing courses that don't have any biological basis isn't going to damage your chances for D100.
However you will want to gear your personal statement at veterinary. Many biological courses understand that they are often a second choice for vets/medics/dentists - and given that scientific interest is often mentioned, they won't hold much against you for a vetty PS.
However if you were to apply to something totally unrelated the uni may dismiss you, simply because your personal statement doesn't relate to the subject. Either that, or they interview you and you get some tricky questions
At the end of the day though, it's all personal choice. If you want to do something that isn't veterinary related, then why not just take the chance and do it?
I studied Animal Science for my first degree and I would guess that about 50% of us had applied for vet school as well! So obviously a vetty personal statement wasn't a disadvantage for that course!
Animal Science is definitely a better, more practical choice than pure biology or zoology....lots more job opportunities than just going into teaching or whatever
H&R: Don't do it. There's this person in there called Anonymous and they will just annoy you to no end and troll your threads and not discuss the matter at hand.
Really though, you may have more options available to you than you think. Try maybe contacting the unis and letting them know your circumstances? You may be entitled to more financial aid than you think

Don't forget though, the London loans aren't really proportional to the cost of living! But I'm in agreement, try and speak to as many people as possible, including different people at the uni's and LEA and see what help you're entitled to. And remember the huuuuge grad fees at Glasgow and Edinburgh if you're thinking about going in that way.
If your grades and PS are good then you may well not get interviewed for biological science courses, so that's something to think about if you're applying for the interview practise.
Hang on...you DON'T have to apply to 4 unis for vet? I thought you got rejected/had a worse chance of getting an offer if you applied to less than the maximum for the course... Don't mean to offend, but what's Animal Science and where does it? I've honestly never heard of it before, I like practical stuff, but Zoology/BioVet are my plan B...for now

Universities can't see where else you've applied, and so can't tell how many vet schools you've applied to.
tha suckkkks emmmzzz... If i was you i'd apply for 2 english ones anyway and get over the mney problem at the time and not tel my parents but thats just me
I applied to bioveterinary sciences at RVC and got a BBB offer that was with my Vet PS.. biology/animal science wud be good... i think i'd go for animal science myself
i decided to take a gap year and re-apply tho.
gooood luck
As for your Personal Statement, you can still do an entirely vet-concerned PS and still get accepted for other courses. I applied for Zoology as my fifth choice, while writing exclusively about my interest in vet medicine, and I got an unconditional - so it doesn't seem to affect other course choices. I imagine it'll be the same for animal science etc.
Yeh im pretty sure glasgow science degree entry people dont even read your personal statement! basically you need BBB and will get an unconditional. I dont think its just science really, my friend didnt know what she wanted to do so ended up applying for archeology, art and psychology, so you can imagine the messed up personal statement that was being banded about for that, and she still got unconditionals to glasgow! With science degrees, basically they glance at your grades, because at the end of the day, they want bums on seats. So i would completely write the PS for vet
Thanks all-I will definitely look into zoology and other courses.
I don't think I'd be brave enough to apply to something unrelated anyway. A friend of a friend took that chance. She applied to veterinary medicine aaaand... Law .
Big risk, considering they both require commitment..
She got accepted at The University of Strathclyde to do Law(conditional, though) but rejected everywhere else.
Laws a bit different, because its one of those ones thats a bit harder to get into than just a science degree or an arts degree. Vocational ones tend to be a bit like that
What about Chemistry?
I had an interest in Chemistry(at a uni that wasn't Glasgow or Edinburgh though..) So could anyone tell me if i could get into that?

Chem would be fine. I know you said not Glasgow, but at glasgow you get admitted to the science faculty, no matter what you actually apply for, and in 1st year you take three subjects. I took Bio, Chem and Environmental Science, and could have ended up doing a degree in any of those, even though i applied for Bio, basically once you get into a uni, you can chop and change as much as you want really
