MA Event Marketing Management

Hey guys!

Does anybody know anything about the MA Event Marketing Management at LondonMet? I'm supposed to start in February but I would love to have some feedback first!

Has anybody done it? Or heard of it? Thanks for your help! :smile:

I don't know, event marketing has its use, very vocational though and you can't really do much outside of that. It'd be worse if it was a bachelor. It'd be interesting to know how much industry connection London Met has, but given its generally low reputation, I doubt it'd be that good.

OP, why did you choose London Met? Couldn't you get into a more reputable university? or was it simply the course that attracted you? it's London location?

Yes it has it's uses, but usually 'Event Marketing' is just a 10/20 credit module that you do for a couple of years during the course of a Marketing degree, rather than spreading that one very specific subject over the course of 3/4/5 years.

Hm, from that aspect you're right, though I never had the option to do event marketing, only tourism marketing.

Having now looked at the course outline of this master (https://intranet.londonmet.ac.uk/prog-plan/postgrad-line/structures/events-marketing-management-ma-2006.cfm), I've got to say that it is pretty weak.

Sorry I didn't realize I had answers! You're kind of freaking me out, Ididn't think it was that bad! I'm not sure I want to do it anymore! There was one in Greenwich also, do you think it would be better?

You've got to do some proper background research on the universities and the course - look at league tables, the RAE assessment, and find past students.

Also, as I said before find out about this: "It'd be interesting to know how much industry connection London Met has", and inquire about past students and where they are now etc.

The one thing that I noticed at both is the low course content. At Strathclyde - MSc International Marketing, I had 4 Core modules @ 15 credits each (Internationalisation Strategy & Management, International Finance, Planning & Control, CrossCultural Buyer Behaviour, and International Market Research), 6 optional modules (from a choice of 12-15, not sure any more) @ 5 credits each, 1 industry project @ 30 credits, and the dissertation @ 60 credits, giving you a total of 180 credits. The Research Methods for the Dissertation was compulsory but not credited like in at least the London Met course, and Greenwich doesn't really tell, also their involvement with local event organisations seems not yet established? Plus we were also sent off to a two-day team building workshop - lots of fun! - but at £2,000 more p.a. - there was funding for EU students available that brought it down by 2/3.

You'll find that lower ranked universities offer more specialised masters (Events Marketing, Events Management), while higher ranked universities offer more general ones (International Marketing, International Management)

Wow! Thanks for everything, I'll start looking again then! I think I got influenced by the fact that I really wanted to go to London... I'm French so I'm not used to that; here, every uni is more or less the same, only the business schools are ranked!

Hey Everybody,

I am Hungarian, 28years old. Have a degree from Hungary, marketing, economic, event,but would like to learn here as well.
To be honest, there are plenty of schools in London. Maybe I just want to do a short course not for years!! But do not know how to start.

If u can help me how can I find out any course, any fees, or government offer…that would be nice.
