Renewable Energy Degree

Hello there,

I’m thinking about a degree in Renewable Energy. There is a lack of this kind of study in Russia so I’ve turned to other countries. In the UK I found some attractive courses in following unis:
University of Aberdeen “Energy Futures” (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/energyfutures/renewables/index.php),
University of Edinburgh “Sustainable Energy Systems” (http://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/postgraduate/finder/details.php?id=22),
Cardiff University “Sustainable Energy and Environment” (http://coursefinder.cardiff.ac.uk/postgraduate/course/detail/964.html),
University of Exeter "Energy Policy and Sustainability" (http://www.exeter.ac.uk/postgraduate/degrees/geography/energymsc/).
Now the most difficult thing is to make a right choice. I’m going to visit the “Education UK” exhibition held in Moscow each September. But only Edinburgh and Exeter will be there.
Can anyone give me an advice and answer two questions.
1. What university seems to be the best in alternative energy studies? For me University of Edinburgh is the most attractive because they have multidisciplinary programme that includes “economics” and my first higher education (in Russian uni) was “World Economics”. So the foundation year (I need it to meet the admission requirements) could be easier. Aberdeen, Cardiff and Exeter propose more engineering oriented courses.
2. I found some notes about renewable energy studies on this forum. Some people say that
“’renewable energy’ are now popping up everywhere to funnel people into engineering courses. Usually though the universities that have to resort to this sort of thing are not great and the students who are tricked onto these courses don't have very good motivation compared with those who consciously chose to do engineering.” So the question is: is there a demand for that kind of specialists?

I will appreciate any answers and advices.

You might want to look at Imperial College's MSc in Environmental Technology (Energy Policy option), if you are wanting a interdisciplinary, policy-focused programme rather than something technical. You can read about the course here: http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/environmentalpolicy/teaching/msc

Edit: I should clarify that I do work in the energy sector in the UK

Thank you for the links.

I heard about Imperial College's MSc in Environmental Technology. But it seems to me that it’s too difficult to enter this university because it’s one of the top ranked in the world (number 6 in the Times Higher Education rankings 2008). Anyway I’ll take into account their programme. It’s not prohibited to try :smile:
