    Re: SQA Appeals
Medical appeals have to go in early, so I don't think the doctor's line is going to help much, if at all. I'm also fairly happy that the pencil isn't likely to be the problem (they're mostly HB, anyway).

On the other hand, I think you've probably got a solid appeal in computing, much less so in biology and maths. However, the strength of the appeal varies depending on a number of things - including the judged difficulty of the prelim coupled with your mark - so nobody can say for sure.

Those grades are fine for university - computer science and engineering at Edinburgh both ask for BBBB, although they might throw in a conditional since you've got a C in maths, which is very important to both. St Andrews doesn't have much of a reputation for computer science, and I don't have any idea what they ask for (look at their website).

Your call (and your school's). Do you realistically think you can get a B or higher in the Advanced Highers? If so, go for it.

Edinburgh ask for a minimum of ABBB as do st. andrews. Edinburgh uni's website states that the typical entry requirements are AABB.
Oops, sorry, they've changed that since I looked. In that case, I would hope for at least the computing appeal to be successful, and aim to do well at AH (you'll probably get a conditional).

St.Andrews is rated 2nd best in UK this year in terms computer science (source: guardian univeristy guide 2010)
Whilst the Times places it 7th, which just goes to show the inanity of league tables. The Times and the Guardian both have their own biases (mine are probably more aligned with the former).

However, if you look at the research score, you'll see it's relatively poor (36th). This is government-assessed (most recently published Christmas last year) and relatively objective. This is what I meant by lacking in reputation. It's worth balancing this against the fact that a fantastic research score may not mean good teaching - and may even mean that teaching suffers slightly at the extreme.

No problem. If you want more information, incidentally, email the universities concerned. Admissions offices are more than happy to help, and better to get information from the horse's mouth than some random on a forum!
