Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?
The key is the conversation before hand. Everyone on the show seems to do the same thing though, "I trust you, I've liked you from the start, I'm definetly going to split" then they steal.
If in the situation I think i'd take a different approach:
I'd tell them outright I was going to steal. Then, I'd say to them it's your decision whether you want to make sure we both go home with nothing, or that one of us goes home with the prize money and the shows a little less rich.
A spiteful person would steal, which is the illogical thing to do. There is no reason not to trust me when I say i'd steal, if I am lying you will only gain something, so it doesn't fit that I would be.
The choice i've given them here is whether or not they're spiteful enough to stop me getting money.
So after all that i'd in fact split, leaving me to look like a clever bastard, but not a dickhead. If they choose to split they seem like a nice person too, and then two good people seem like they deserve the money, and it makes good tv. But if they steal, they look twice the much of a knob for stopping both of us getting money, but infact they steal it all, so lots of hate off their buddies
Logically i should steal instead of split, but hey, i'd rather do this badass stunt than have twice the prize money! -
Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?
Steal- say there is £100 up for grabs. I could split and get £50 or £0. 50/50 chance of either. Or I could steal and get £100 or £0, 50/50 chance again. Why take the same gamble for less money?
However, if the game operated on one of those scenarios where you have to decide how much either of you get, I'd pick £50 for each person. -
Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?
Im thinking like the guy a few above. I would tell them im gonna steal and then pick split.
So they think noones winning or Im winning when actually we both win or they win. ofcourse I would always hope the person split with me after the show if they had tried to make neither of us win. -
Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?
I don't get everyone saying it's horrible to steal the money... you're not actually stealing it from them, they don't leave with less than when they came. Surely the whole point of a gameshow is to win/do as well as possible..

Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?Unless everyone acts the same way you've suggested, in which case whatever you do, the probability of getting money is 0. As a group strategy, splitting is obviously sensible.(Original post by syrettd)

Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?
I would always steal:
If you both Steal, then you both get nothing. So if you had Split that ball that person would have got all the money and you wouldn't have anything (same ending to both).
But on the flip side, if you Steal and they Split-you get the money=

Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal? This. I can't give them the satisfaction of stealing from me.(Original post by funsongfactory)
Steal, I'd be too annoyed if I was gullible enough to split because they'd probably steal too and I'd rather neither of us got the money than them get it all tbh. -
Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?Glad you agree XD(Original post by whyumadtho)
This. I can't give them the satisfaction of stealing from me. -
Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?
My natural instinct would be to steal. If I split and the other person stole I wouldn't be able to deal with the disappointment. If I split and the other person split, I'd regret not being braver and going for all the money. At the end of the day you have no affiliation to the other player and are probably never going to see them again, so why wouldn't you steal?

Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?
I don't really watch/like that show, but I've sometimes wondered if anyone has ever actually said they're going to steal?
Edit: as in, to the other player, not just to the camera
Edit 2: Ok just saw the above hahahaLast edited by Onearmedbandit; 27-06-2012 at 18:54. -
Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal? As the game was last time I watched (is it still on?), most people split. So a stealing strategy would be best. If everyone did this, then the game wouldn't work.(Original post by Slumpy)

Re: Golden Balls - would you split or steal?I've never watched it. But the terrible game theoretic approach bugs me.(Original post by syrettd)
