‘The largest University Bus service in Wales’ - the UWIC Rider, runs between the university campuses and covers Cardiff city centre and popular private student housing areas. Operating from Monday to Friday from 8am to midnight during term-time, the bus service makes travel between the campuses easy for our students, and allows safe travel into the city at night. Currently, when students purchase a UWIC Rider bus pass, they also gain free and unlimited access to all Cardiff buses within Cardiff for the whole of the Academic year (including Christmas and Easter).

Library and Study Facilities
We offer facilities of the highest standard to our students and staff. Across all campuses we offer first class libraries and learning centres, print studios and support services. Our aim is to provide students with a safe and supportive learning environment. Library users have direct access to an overall stock of approximately 270,000 books and 1,000 journals. Student facilities, learning centres and the provisions within Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) are constantly being updated and reviewed to make sure student satisfaction is not just met but exceeds expectation.
Autumn 2010 will see the opening of a brand new, state-of-the-art, Cardiff School of Management building at the Llandaff campus and last year (2009) saw the opening of the £4.9m Food Industry Centre.
IT
We can offer our students excellent open access computing suites (some 24 hour access) at all campuses. Our Learning Centres allow students to access a broad range of learning facilities, well-equipped study areas and flexible spaces for individual or group work and video conferencing. A team of friendly IT technicians and library staff are on hand, offering professional support and guidance. Wireless Internet is available throughout all Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) Campuses and within all Student Accommodation.
Sporting
Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) is one of the leading centres for student sport in the UK. Whether you are studying Sport or not, the Llandaff and Cyncoed campuses provide excellent sporting facilities for those who want to stay in shape. Sporting facilities at Cyncoed include:

Amenities
Cardiff is already one of the top 10 shopping destinations in the UK and with 'St David's 2', a major new development of flagship stores that opened in 2009, it will soon rise to the top five.
The city has all big-name high street stores, from Topshop to House of Fraser and H&M, but it is in the fabulous Edwardian arcades that you can find the best of shopping in Cardiff. The covered arcades wind through the city centre, interconnecting, and house the best of Cardiff's independent shopping scene, from top fashion boutiques like Woodies Emporium and Pussy Galore, to quirky shoe shops Eccentrixs and Buzz, interiors havens Rossiters and Nice, as well as plenty of unusual eateries. Vegetarians will love Crumbs Salad Restaurant, serving delicious pitta breads and vegan specialties, and all foodies in Cardiff follow their noses to Wally's - a delicatessen with fantastic foods from across the world. Cardiff is also home to the world's oldest record store - Spillers Records has been selling music since 1894, and is still one of the best places in Cardiff to pick up an obscure album or a rare copy of a classic.
On campus, there are dedicated Student Union Shops at each of our campuses offering the usual confectionaries and various stationary products that you'll no doubt need! There are also a variety of 'Dolche' Vita' coffee bars, refectory's and cash machines available.
Medical Services
Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC)'s Nursing Officers are experienced professionals who are committed to an integrated system of care, encompassing physical, emotional and psychological health and well-being. If you need help or advice on any aspect of health or well-being, they provide a confidential drop-in service in the medical centres on each campus. They organise health education events and it's worth remembering that they provide a useful front-line service if you are feeling upset or distressed during your time at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC).

Welfare Services
Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC)'s Student Services are designed to meet the support needs of all students and to offer help and guidance to ensure your time at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) is as enjoyable and successful as possible.

Student Union
The mission of Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC)'s Student's Union (SU) is to promote the interests and welfare of you, the student, during your course of study. It exists to represent, support and advise you on any aspect of student life and provide social, cultural and recreational activities by facilitating a wide variety of student clubs, societies and interest groups. The SU also acts as the recognised representative channel between students and the university (and other external bodies).
At present the students' union operates three bars on the Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) campuses and in October 2009 opened a brand new state-of-the-art student centre at the Cyncoed Campus.

Careers Service
The careers service helps students develop effective career management skills and provides information on employment, study and training opportunities at home and abroad. Staff are available to help you at any time during and after your course, giving guidance on career choice and personal development opportunities as well as practical help with applications. Workshops are offered on all campuses and may be available through your course.Appointments can be made with Career Advisers at any of the campuses or you can use our drop-in sessions.
The main Careers Information Centre is at Cyncoed, with smaller information centres on the other campuses. Call in to browse the resources and take away magazines and directories; Or use the carefully selected resources on our website and our interactive careers education module to improve your career skills without even leaving your desk. Career Development Services can also arrange vacation work placements and job 'tasters' through the GO Wales programme.
Financial Aid
The Student Finance & Welfare Advisory Service is part of Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC)'s Student Services and offers confidential, impartial and non-judgemental advice on all aspects of student finance and it's FREE to all Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) students and prospective students.
If you're finding it really hard to make ends meet, you may be able to get some financial help from the Financial Contingency Fund. The Fund is given to Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) each year, by the Welsh Assembly, to help students who are in excessive hardship. If you are studying full or part-time on a mainstream undergraduate or postgraduate course or course of further education, you are eligible to apply to the Fund as long as you meet the residence requirements, that is, you aren't an international or EU student. The good news is that any award you are given doesn't have to be repaid!

Main Halls/accommodation for 1st years
For first year students, many of whom will be living away from home for the first time, finding suitable affordable accommodation can be a particular source of concern.
The Accommodation Service provides a comprehensive service: allocating places in halls of residence or helping students to find privately rented accommodation off campus near to their place of study.
Students who wish to apply for accommodation for Halls or wish to receive Private Sector Housing Information should contact the Accommodation Services direct.
When contacting the Accommodation Service, students should have their name, Address, UCAS Number, Course name and course code. Your details will be added to our database and Halls Application Forms & Information for 2010 entry will be available from the end of March 2010 onwards – this will be sent to you automatically as long as we have your details.
The Service's central office is based on the Cyncoed campus and it is open throughout the year during office hours 8.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, 8.30am - 4.00pm Friday.
Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) accommodation
Availability
Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) currently has nearly 1000 study bedrooms located at the Cyncoed and Plas Gwyn campuses. In addition, Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) also allocates just over 250 private en-suite halls of residence to students.
Hall managers are present at each of the campuses and are supported by a team of trained student wardens who are usually mature or final year students who have previously lived in halls. Evening and weekend duty rotas ensure that a member of staff and a student warden are always available to deal with queries or emergencies.
You are welcome to visit the various residences. You might wish to do so when you come for interview. A prior appointment is strongly advised.
Facilities
Cyncoed Campus:
All rooms have high-speed, unlimited internet access included in the halls fees. There are laundry facilities on site and students are able to use these 24 hours a day. Students resident at Cyncoed are well placed to take advantage of the extensive sports and recreational facilities located at the campus, including an indoor swimming pool, Students' Union bar/disco, indoor tennis centre and fitness suite.
Plas Gwyn Campus:
The halls are set in attractive landscaped grounds and benefit from facilities including an on site launderette and communal TV room with vending machines. They are in close proximity to shopping, banking and other facilities at Llandaff and the sports and leisure facilities at the Llandaff campus itself.
All accommodation campuses are served by the university bus service, UWIC Rider, and Cardiff Bus.
Recognised off campus accommodation
Evelian Court (Private Halls of Residence)
There are 253 rooms, all are self catered and have en suite bathroom facilities and Internet facilities. There are a few premier (double en suite) rooms and some self-contained studio flats. The premier and studio flats are a higher rental than that of the single en suite rooms.
