Chemistry

Year of Study: 1st

Typical Week:

Monday......

• Cleaner comes in at about 7:30-8, is very loud, wakes me up, bangs on my door with the hoover and slams the cupboards in the kitchen = me being tired and grumpy for the rest of the day.
• Statists lectures 1-3pm come out wanting to pummel my lecturers face in because shes useless.
• 1 hour break
• Lecture 4-5pm

Bus, home, eat, nap, tv, bed.....3am get woken up by all the drunks stumbling back from zanzibar.

Tuesday

• Super long lay in,
• Prepare notes for lab session later that day
• Lab session 4-5pm

Bus, home, eat, then usually start doing research for Lab report

Wednesday - Day off, YAY! Ill usually either sit around and do nothing, get cracking on my lab report or go into town and buy stuff.

Thursday

• wake up super early for early lecture
• Lectures 10-11
• Back home and back to bed for a few hours
• Back to uni for a late lecture 5-6pm
• Home, eat, any work that needs doing/finishing

Friday

• Another bit of a lay in
• Contemplate not going in....its only a crap 1hour lecture anyway
• Go in in the end seeing as ive got up/ Think sod it, the lecture notes are online anyway
• Home, eat, TV, maybe some work if I have any deadlines

Saturday

• Long lay in,
• Maybe go into town
• Maybe do some work if I have a deadline the next week
• Spend the rest of the day doing nothing

Sunday

• Long lay in
• Go to Asda at some point in the evening, spend a ridiculous amount of time (and money) in there constantly trying to resist the Ben & Jerrys on special offer..... hmmm

And as well as that there will be a JCR comittee meeting squeezed in there, various JCR tasks, lots of facebooking and TSRing, more TV than ive admitted to, less work than ive listed and any other stuff that I may get around to on an unscheduled/routine basis like going out.

English

First Year

Username: milly.

Typical Week:

Monday: 10: Get up. 10:30 Catch bus to uni 11: 1hr lecture 12: get bus home 12:30 at home, having lunch, dossing. 6: finish dossing, go to dinner. i might go to zanzibar later on.

Tuesday: 7:30 get up 8: join the queue for a bus 9: 1hr seminar 10: catch bus home, have an early lunch. doss. 11 catch bus back to uni 12: 2hr lecture 2: catch bus back home 4: go to work 10: get back home. doss for the rest of the night.

Wednesday: 9: wake up 9:30 catch bus to uni 10: 3hr lecture/screening 1: get bus home, have lunch. do some work and seminar prep. 6: go for dinner. 10: usually red leicester.

Thursday: 9: wake up 9:30 catch bus to uni 10: 1hr lecture 11: catch bus home. do more seminar prep. 12 catch bus to uni 1: 1hr seminar 2: catch bus home, via pricebusters. doss. 6: go for dinner.

Friday: 9: wake up 9:30 catch bus to uni 10: 1hr seminar 11: catch bus into town. go home, have lunch. 6: go for dinner. possibly go out in the evening.

Saturday & Sunday: If I'm not going to see my boyfriend/he's not coming to see me then: 12: go for brunch spend the rest of the day working/dossing/shopping. 6: go for dinner. either go out in the evening or have wine in the kitchen.

Third Year

Okay, I've graduated now but I wanted to do this from memory (the exact lecture times might not be exact). I'll give a week from semester one where I only had two modules and a dissertation to study, and a week from the second semester where I was back studying three modules.

Typical Week - Semester One:

Monday: Wake up at about 8, shower, breakfast and out for 9 am lecture on Victorian Literature. Half the time I'd skip this lecture. If skipping, get up at 9 and repeat the preparation process, in for 10 for a two hour poetry seminar. After this I'd grab some lunch, and then head to the library to do my reading for the Victorian literature seminar on Tuesdays/start writing my poetry assignment for the week. Go home at about 4/5 and spend the rest of the night on TSR/chatting with flatmates.

Tuesday: Lie in til about 10, shower, breakfast, off to 11 Victorian Lit seminar. Good times. Finished for the day. Grab lunch, go to library, do some poetry reading/writing, pretend to research for my dissertation. Evening would be spent, like the others, on TSR.

Wednesday: Wednesday's are pretty cool because all universities seem to put their sports events in the afternoon, so you're pretty unlucky to have a lecture or something in the morning. Basically this day would be spent doing my reading for the Victorian Lit seminars if we were reading a novel; otherwise it'd be lazing about playing Tetris, doing things like laundry and shopping. In the evening we'd normally try and go to Varsity for 2-1 drinks, otherwise me and my housemate would just drink and watch films/stupid videos on youtube.

Thursday: I'm not sure whether the Victorian lecture was at 1 or 2, but before then it was basically do nothing and have lunch, etc. Afterwards I'd meet a friend and go to play pool or go to the library and pretend to research for my dissertation. Home in the evening for tea and another evening on TSR. On every other week I'd have to schedule a meeting with my dissertation supervisor, I normally had it at about 11 so I could do a bit of reading in the library then get lunch before the lecture.

Friday: Another free day, usually get up about 11. I'd always aim to get my poetry assignment written by this day as we have to have them sent to the tutor by Sunday. Generally I'd use this day to get within about 50 pages from the end of whatever novel I am reading. An evening drinking with housemate then TSRing til the early hours.

Saturday and Sunday: Both spent in bed from late night's TSRing, probably get up around 1, and basically do nothing. Sometimes I'd have people over and we'd chill, go to the cinema, whatever. Sometimes I'd use my free time and spare money to head off to visit people in other places; I pretty much never did any work at the weekend unless I'd fallen behind with any reading or hadn't perfected my poetry assignment. Good times.

Other comments:

I basically wrote the entirety of my dissertation in the one week after christmas before it was due, where I also wrote another essay and a poetry portfolio. During this week my timetable was more like: Library by 10, lunch at some point before 1, library until 4, quick break, library until 6/7 sometimes 8 if I could put up with the rumbling stomach, coffee break with a friend, home. I'd never work later than 8 in the evening, even when I was pretty swamped. Have to have time to relax aka on TSR.

Typical Week - Semester Two:

Monday: Basically wake up whenever, normally I'd be up and showered and breakfasted by 11. Go to the library and make some notes before my Romanticism seminar which ran from 2-4, or finish my reading for Tuesday. Basically I was the only one who said anything in the Romanticism seminars, despite the fact they were one of our few chosen modules, sigh, so I had to know my stuff. After this I'd maybe go to the library for an hour or so to finish reading for Tuesday, then go home, and spend the evening on TSR/with my housemate, waiting for the inevitable aches and pains to begin.

Tuesday: For real. 2nd worst day I'd ever had scheduled. 9am Modernism seminar, the most boring seminar known to man (silent class and gibbering tutor). One hour break afterwards spent in library cafe/canteen with a few people just chilling and chatting. 11 lecture on postmodernism. From 12-4 I'd be free, so it'd usually be lunch and then in the library answering the seminar questions for the seminar at 4pm. Sometimes I'd meet a friend and play pool for a bit in between this time, in which case I'd do more reading in my free days. Seminar finishes at 5, which seems late enough for me to call an end to the day. Go home, get something like laundry/shopping done, have dinner, go on TSR. Occasionally we'd go out on a Tuesday to Mosh. Oh yeah.

Wednesday: Another free day Wednesday iirc. Given the denser amount of modules I had this semester I'd actually have to use this day reading. Fortunately the Romanticism module was almost always poetry reading which didn't take long, and the postmodernist module would have short novels or plays. Wednesday's I'd get pretty much all my reading for those modules done, since it was normally pretty good stuff. Perhaps start reading for modernism. Evenings spent as the Wednesday above.

Thursday: Up and ready to do stuff by 10, got into a better routine of waking up and doing work in the final semester after the amount of work I put in in what I call "dissertation week" as outlined above. Head to the library for about 10.30 to do some reading. 2pm film screening for the postmodernism module which sometimes was cool and sometimes was terrible. Basically would sit at the back poking people/trying to sleep. Walked out of one of these with a flourish before because it was so bad. Go me. This would also be "badminton day", and I'd play with a friend off my course either at about 10 or after the film screening. Cue 4 or 5 days of aching joints and hobbling around the Attenborough Tower (thank god for the Paternoster, because going up 14 flights of stairs when you're in pain is hard.) Go home, shower if I've played badminton, chill out with TSR/housemates.

Friday: Up and ready by about 10 again. Go to 2nd hand book shop and chat with the woman there, she was damn cool. Go to the library, read a bit. Lecture for modernism was at about 1 or 2, I think, so I'd grab lunch and go to that. End of the week after the lecture, but I'd prbably be in the library for a few hours studying before heading home. An evening drinking with housemate then TSRing til the early hours.

Saturday and Sunday: Same as before, but I'd probably have to finish off any reading for the next week, which when you have three novels a week to read can be pretty difficult. I think at peak times I had over 1200 pages of reading to do in one week, which I consider a pretty hefty workload. Other than that, basically do nothing. Good times.

Other Comments: When essays were on then I'd normally spend a bit more time in the library in the afternoons making notes. About 4 days before it was due I'd start staying later in the library to write up from my notes (notes meaning roughly written paragraphs, generally just needed a bit of polishing). Visit tutor who offers criticism and tells me to change my essay around, major sigh, (though it's worth it when you get a first on the essay): end up up one night until about 3, chatting with a friend on msn after finishing. Essay exchange to go over each other's essay. I think I went to the library at about 5 am one morning before the deadline to print and went back to bed when the sun had come up, before going and handing it in at 12. Wouldn't have got a computer to print otherwise. 24 hour library ftw, btw.

Geography

Year of Study: 1st year

Typical Week:

Monday:

• Get up at 8:30 and walk into uni for my 10am lecture.
• Stay at uni till 1 with 3 hours of lectures -yawn- Always a killer on a Monday morning!
• Either go home or see some friends, depending on whether we have other lectures etc.
• Go home and contemplate going out in the evening, occasionally do, depends on the housemate. If i don't now is the time to eat, and relax.

Tuesday:

• Get up at 7:30 for my 9am, again walk into uni. Sit through my 9am lecture then head in for a 2 hour practical.
• Leave the practical and go home. Occasionally do some work.....generally procrastination!
• Head to asda at some point.... Tuesday is shopping day!

Wednesday:

• Day off today! Get rudely awoken at about 10 by the people testing the fire alarm, lay awake for a bit and then contemplate getting up.
• Do a little bit of work and eat some lunch.
• Head into uni to go and play tennis at 2, and then run around like a loony for 3 hours playing tennis!
• Return home and collapse, then possibly go out to Red Leicester, if not more sleeping!

Thrusday:

• Have a lie in and then head into uni for 12... leave here at 11:15.
• Sit through an hours lecture, then have a 2 hour gap then another hours lecture.
• Either see some friends after this or go home and chillax..... i mean work, honest!

Friday:

• Be rudely awoken at about 8 by the cleaner banging and crashing.... ive yet to realise why she washes my door.... so odd!
• Go into uni for my 10 am lecture, then i escape for the day!
• Either see some friends or go shopping
• Get back home, head to the gym.... occasionally, and mayhaps do a little work.
• Either go to mosh (my new found second home) or go to bed and sleep!

Saturday:

• Get up after a lie in do a little work followed by a lazy lunch.
• Head down to the sports grounds and play 3 more hours of tennis!
• Then head off home.... if its the basketball season i will go and watch a game of basketball with the local Leicester team, if it isn't the season i will either play the ps2 with the flatmates or just laze around.

Sunday:

• Sleep day!
• Spend the day doing a little work, watching DVDs, reading etc!

History

Year of Study: 1st year

Typical Week

Monday

• Get up about 9ish and pack bag. I tend to have an essay to hand in, so pop online quickly to submit it electronically before grabbing the hard copy and heading into University.
• Head up to the seventh floor of Attenborough Tower using the Paternoster and pop essay in the box! Check the pigeon hole to see if any other essays have been returned.
• Head up one floor for a Tutorial.
• Head home for an afternoon of 'work' or more likely Expert Procrastination.
• Spend the afternoon deliberating over going out or staying in. Tend to stay in because.

Tuesday

• 7am. Up and out for a 9 o'clock lecture and getting the earlier buses is the safe bet if you don't want to be late.
• A Bacon Roll and a cup of tea in the Charles Wilson cafe to give me strength for the hour to come.
• Monarchy and Society Lecture for an hour.
• A stroll across Victoria Park to the History buildings at Salisbury road for a fascinating Tutorial :p
• Back to the Redfern for Curly Fries with my friends.
• Library trip.
• Home to try and so some work. Expert procrastination continues until bed.

Wednesday

• 7am again, early bus again, this time for a two hour seminar on Jane Austen's Historical world.
• An hour free! A cup of tea and a book in Planets cafe while away the time until my friends arrive.
• A lecture. I tend to fall asleep in this however hard I try not to
• Back in the afternoon. I tend to work on wednesdays and the Monday deadline appears slightly more threatening.
• Get ready to go to Red Leicester
• Go to Red Leicester for 10pm to take advantage of cheap drinks for the first hour.

Thursday

• Long, hungover lie in. Depending how hungover I am I'll get up and do some work. If it's bad Expert Procrastination continues.
• A lecture at 4pm!!
• Back and get ready for going out to the nearby Weatherspoons for Curry Night.

Friday

• Nice lie-in again. Get up, do some work, chill out.
• Lecture at 3 followed by a Library trip to pick up some final odds and ends for the essay I'll be doing at the weekend.
• Come back, dinner shower, head to Mosh.

Saturday

• Lie-in, followed by paracetamol followed by essay writing. Saturdays are Pyjama days =*

Sunday

• Same as Saturday without the paracetamol and with more TV catching up using BBC iPlayer.

This is a VERY exteme week. I only would tend to go out on a couple of occaisions as opposed to all of them and I probably wouldn't go out as much if I had an essay due. Anyway, my weeks do tend to follow this vague pattern
