This guide just ties together all the accommodation information from both university to make your decision that little bit easier. University of Sussex AccommodationGeneral InformationAs Sussex University is a campus university much of the accommodation is found on the Sussex campus at Falmer. There are some smaller off campus residences but these make up the minority. All accommodation at the University of Sussex is self catered and varies in quality and cost. As a new undergraduate, providing you get the housing application in by the August deadline, you are guaranteed University-managed accommodation at the Falmer campus or in Brighton. All the residences are furnished and have a bed, desk, bookshelf, wardrobe, and chair in each room. Some rooms will have en suite facilities and others will have a sink however this depends on the halls of residence that you are in. The kitchen will have a fridge- freezer, an oven and hob and a kettle, most kitchens will also have a microwave although this is not always guaranteed. The communal areas will be cleaned regularly though it is the responsibility of the occupier to clean their own room and en suite if they have an en suite. Each room on campus has its own internet connection but students are expected to provide their own computer to access it. There is limited parking space on campus so those students who live on campus and don’t have a special reason are not allowed to park on campus. Bramber HousesThese halls of residence are found near the centre of the Sussex campus near Bramber house which is where many of the bars and restaurants are located. There are a number of different sizes of flat ranging from one with four students to those for seven students. Each flat has a kitchen and living areas and all the rooms are en suite. Key information
BrighthelmThese halls of residence are made up by 60 five bed roomed houses. Some of the houses will be postgraduate and some will be undergraduates. These halls have more in the kitchens than the others as they have a washing machine and a tumble dryer. There is a sink in each bedroom and each flat of five rooms has two bathrooms. Key information
East SlopeEast slope is the cheapest on campus accommodation available. It consists of 100 flats of between six and twelve students. The family accommodation on the Sussex campus is also provided here. There are kitchen and living facilities provided and shared toilets and showers. Key information
New Falmer DevelopmentThis opens for the first time in September 2007. It is found just opposite Sussex campus and consists of flats for between four and six students and a number of studio flats. Key information
Lewes Court Phase 1 and 2This halls of residence is found at the back of the Sussex campus and is made of five or six person flats. In phase 1 there is a sink in each bedrooms and one bathroom per flat. In phase 2 all the rooms are en suit. There is also a shared kitchen and living room. Key information
Park HousesThere are four park houses (Kent, Lancaster, Norwich and York) and they are made up of single bedrooms with a sink. Each kitchen is shared between approximately twelve students and there are shared toilet facilities for every six students. There are a small number of en suite rooms available. Key information
Park VillageThese halls of residence are made up of a number of three story houses. Each of the houses has twelve rooms, two kitchens, as well as a bath, shower and toilets. Each bedroom has their own sink. Key information
Kings RoadThis is one of the off campus halls of residence and is found on the Brighton sea front, it is for postgraduates only. It consists of flats for up to six students, each flat as a kitchen and living area as well as bath, shower and toilet facilities and each room has a sink . There are also laundry facilities which are shared by all residents of kings road. Key information
York Avenue, HoveThis is one of many smaller halls of residence spread over Brighton and Hove. These halls consist of a two large adjoining houses which are in a good location with easy access to the city centre. This is for undergraduates and there are laundry facilities available. Key information
Florence Road, BrightonThese halls consist of three properties on the same road. Most of the rooms have sinks and there are laundry facilities on site. There is a mixture of shared and single rooms. All houses are within close proximity to London road train station and so have easy access to campus. Key information
Windlesham Road, HoveThese halls are made up of two detached houses on the same road. They are close to shops and public transport. Most of the rooms have a sink in them and there are kitchen, living and laundry facilities on site. Key information
Clifton Road, BrightonThis is a single property and is based in the popular student area of seven dials. This gives easy access to Brighton station and the city centre. There are two self contained flats each made up for four students. There are laundry facilities of site. Key information
Victoria Road, BrightonThis is a building which again is in the seven dials area. It is for postgraduates only . There is a sink in every room and there are laundry facilities on site. Key information
University of Brighton AccommodationThe University of Brighton has space of 1,900 people to live in halls each year. The halls of residence and spread over Brighton and Eastbourne. Some are catered and some are self catered. Priority accommodation at Brighton University will be allocated to first time undergraduates who have firmly accepted an offer. FalmerFalmer is one of the main campuses and is based just outside the outskirts of Brighton 8 minutes away from the city centre by train. There are two halls of residences located here. Paddock FieldsThe paddock fields accommodation is split into flats and houses with up to eight students sharing kitchen facilities. Each bedroom is en suite with all of usual expected furniture the rooms are slightly bigger that most student accommodation. There are laundry facilities on site and each room has attached parking. There is internet access provided in each room. This halls of residence is self catered. This year first year BSMS students who applied for this accomadation were placed in neighbouring flats that were almost entirely filled with medics. This was to make it easier to study during exam periods and to minimise distractions. It provides a good social life in some ways (as you know when the vast majority of medics are going out and go in a big group) but makes it difficult to have non medic friends. If you don't want to be place with mainly medics then you would be better off applying for the sussex halls where the policy is not to place medics together.
Great WilkinsThis accommodation is more commonly allocated to mature students. The tenancy is longer and there are individual flats available for couples. Other than this the accommodation is similar to paddock fields. This halls of residence is self catered. Key Information
MoulsecoombeMoulsecoombe is one of the main teaching campuses for the University of Brighton but has a supprisingly small amount of accommodation. This halls is two miles away from central Brighton with good bus links and a train station just 1 minute walk away. Moulsecoombe PlaceEach of the flats in moulsecoombe place contains a number of single bedrooms, shared kitchen and washing facilities and two toilets. There is internet access and a communal laundrette. This halls of residence is self catered. Key information
VarleyThis is the largest group of halls that the University of Brighton has to offer. This group of halls is located midway between the Moulsecoombe and Falmer campuses approximately 3 miles from the centre of Brighton. There are good bus links into the centre of town. Ashdown HouseThis is one of the few catered accommodation options at the University of Brighton. Breakfast and an evening meal are included in the price of accommodation. The bedrooms are organised into hallways with a bath/shower and toilet as well as a communal kitchen for every eight students. There are also mature student only corridors and single flats for couples available. Internet access is available in every bedroom and there is a communal laundrette. Key Information
Balcoombe, Chailey and DitchlingThe accommodation here has single study bedrooms with a shared bath/shower and toilet as well as a shared kitchen. There are four students sharing the bathroom facilities and eight sharing a kitchen. These rooms are the cheapest available at the University of Brighton and so are smaller than the other accommodation that you will find. There is also no internet access available in the individual rooms though there is there is a computer room where laptops can be connected to the internet. Key Information
Framfield, Selsey, Kingston & ChalvingtonThese halls are located in a similar area to Balcoombe, Chailey and Ditchling but are slightly more up market. The rooms are bigger and the facilities are nicer. There is internet access in each room and communal laundry facilities are available. Key Information
Grand ParadeThere is only one halls of residence at the grand parade site. The site is close to the centre of Brighton with easy access both to the clubs and pubs as well as the other university campuses. Phoenix Brewery'The accommodation found here is all en suite with rooms arranged into communal flats with shared kitchen and living areas. There is internet access as well as a communal laundry and unlike many of the other halls there is a large common room which can be used. Key Information
