Bucks is a new generation university, and is always open to fresh ideas and thinking. The university has lots of links with employers and courses that are aimed at getting students into their chosen career.

Bucks has recently had an investment of £100m, which has gone into developing a new campus building at High Wycombe, The Gateway. As well as this there has been some renovation work at both the Uxbridge and High Wycombe campus and there is a new halls of residence too. The university has invested in some of the best facilities in the area including a state of the art sports and fitness centre which contains a gym, sports hall, dance studio, treatment room and human performance laboratory, music studios, workshops for our creative students, library, social areas, Beats and Rusty Bucks Cafes, Students' Union bar. Bucks also has a range of specialist facilities and equipment for other study areas, including Mac suites for design based students 'Penfield Hospital', a virtual learning environment for nursing students and even a criminal investigation suite for policing and criminology students!
Since the university has consolidated campuses, there is an enhanced learning resource centre at High Wycombe plus facilities for nursing students at Uxbridge. The library is a resource for many key resources including books, journals, publications, access to electronic resources, computer/internet access and study spaces. The libraries have extensive opening hours including evening and weekends.
IT and computing
IT facilities are easy to access at the university; there are many computers in the libraries and also 24 hour internet access within both halls of residence. Bucks runs a virtual learning environment, which students can access both on and off campus, as well as an easy access personal storage area for each person.
Sports are a big part of Bucks, the uni offers sports based degrees but even if you are not on a sports course you can play for one of the university teams, work on projects around sports leadership in the community, keep fit in a sports society or with the new facilities – or you can just watch the teams play! The university is a sporting partner of both London Wasps and Wycombe Wanderers.
There are many support services at Bucks New University including Senior Residents at both halls of residence who ensure all freshers are happy and handling being away from home. During the first two weeks of term there are 'Fresher's Helpers', who are armed with lots of information. Fresher’s helpers receive training so they know where within the University any queries, concerns or issues which may arise should be referred. Liaison with university staff enables fresher’s helpers to support induction programmes and assist that all-important transition into university life.
The Students' Union Advice Centre, are there for support and advice on accommodation, courses, legal issues, money, personal issues and will be able to advise you on where to go for support and advice in other areas.
Other university welfare and support facilities include: Money Advice, Disability Service, Counselling Service, Careers & Employment, Faith, Academic Support - including Library help, Learning Development (assistance with techniques for essays, resource finding, presentations, exam preparation etc), plus our Student Centre for information on your fees, Finance England, ID cards, supportive documents and enrolment.

When new students move into accommodation such as our halls of residence and head tenancy accommodation they must all fill out a registration form for a the local doctor's surgery. The university will provide information of local surgeries for you.
Within the town of High Wycombe you can find all your usual high street shops, mainly located on the high street (Primark, Superdrug, Boots, WHSmiths, Argos etc), in The Octagon (The Body Shop, Clarks, Cargo, Sony Centre etc) or The Chilterns (Wilkinsons, Primark etc).
The town centre in High Wycombe has recently undergone a massive redevelopment, at the centre of which is the new Eden Shopping Centre, which is connected to The Octagon. The Eden Shopping Centre is home to the likes of New Look, Miss Selfridge, River Island, Next, Monsoon, House of Fraser, Gap, Waterstones, Carphone Warehouse, Lush, Zara, H&M, HMV, Wagamama, Yo Sushi, Frankie and Benny's, Nando's, AMF Bowling, Cineworld Cinema and plenty of other big names.
Uxbridge has two main shopping centres, The Chimes (Claires Accessories, HMV, Waterstones, Build a Bear, Disney Store, Odeon Cinema, Debenhams, Toni & Guy, Accessorize, Top Shop, JD Sports) and The Mall (Bargain Books, The Works, Game, M&S, TK Maxx, Body Shop, Specsavers). Uxbridge is within the top 10 shopping destinations in London - plus with access to the underground - many shops are in easy reach!
In High Wycombe there are many restaurants, offering a variety of cuisines including traditional English, Chinese, Indian, Thai, American and Italian. Restaurants include: Ask, Pizza Express, TGI Friday's, Frankie and Benny's, EAMAYL (Chinese Buffet), Noodle Nation, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, KFC, Subway, plus many more local pubs and cafes.
In Uxbridge there are also a large range of restaurants, bars and pubs offering a range of foods including, Ask, Auberge, Costa, Nando's, Pizza Express, Spice Merchant and Tai Pan, to name but a few!
There are many banks within easy reach of both our campuses including: Natwest, Barclays, Abbey, HSBC, Halifax, The Yorkshire Bank etc.
High Wycombe and Uxbridge both have great transport links. In High Wycombe there is a very large bus station operating routes throughout the country plus easy train access to London via London Marylebone. The road links around the surrounding areas of High Wycombe are very good with access off the M40.
Uxbridge campus is only five minutes to the nearest London underground station, so it is really easy to get around locally, and to the larger London train stations, there are also regular bus services from the bus station near to campus. For students there is access to both campuses by bus , which is run by a local bus service company.
The university offices a career advice service for students. This service gives advice about application forms, offers training sessions, can help you with creating a C.V, psychometric testing and other advice to help you gain a job.
Part-time work can be picked up within the surrounding areas. There are many shops which require part time/seasonal work.
The students' union also advertises for part-time bar staff and stewards to work evenings at the union bar.
Student Ambassadors are also a key role at Bucks New University. This work gives students the chance to gain experience of working on events such as open days as part of the university team.
Bucks New University welcomes all faiths to the establishment. Providing a faith service and chaplaincy onsite whilst working alongside local organisations to provide spiritual support.

Bars, pubs and clubs
High Wycombe provides a social vibe for all students who study at the university. Of course there is the Union however there are obviously places within the town and neighbouring towns/cities. Many places offer student nights, so drinks and entry fees are cheaper than usual.
The Students' Union within High Wycombe boasts a full week schedule for a variety of tastes. High Wycombe has a range of bars and clubs within easy reach of the campus, there are also pubs offering student rates including the The Falcon, a local Wetherspoons, O'Neills, The Glasshouse and the Antelope.
Neighbouring towns such as Watford and Beaconsfield offer more nightlife, minibuses can be arranged for a night out.
For our Uxbridge based students, access to the Students' Union bar in High Wycombe is always available, but if you prefer to stay in Uxbridge and the local area, there are a range of options; The Academy, Loco's, Liquid & Envy, The Olster and Zanzi Bar, among many others.
Throughout the academic year there are events which take place as part of sporting events or social events.
Sport teams will take place in games against regional universities for example Varsity includes Bucks New University play against Reading.
The student union offers a variety of social parties ranging from Christmas, New Year to the big end of term party the May Ball.
Clubs and societies
The University offers loads of societies, including: Ultimate Frisbee, Law Society, Poker Society, Christian Union Society, LGBT society, Snowsoc, Fancy Dress Society and a Street dance society etc.
If the society you would like to be involved in doesn't yet exist, you can inform the Students' Union and they can help you set it up.
The university also offers a large number of sport clubs ranging from Rugby to American Football and for the girls, Cheerleading to Girl's Hockey.
A contract will be signed by both the accommodation service and the student moving into the accommodation to ensure all terms are agreed.
All our halls of residence flats are fitted kitchen facilities including, an oven and hob, fridge/freezer, sink, television, dining table and chairs along with an iron and ironing board. Onsite there are laundry services which are priced at very reasonable rates. Each bedroom is fitted with an internet connection link which can be accessed 24 hours a day. Both the halls of residence sites have 24 hour security and ID access.
As well as our halls of residence accommodation for new students, the university also offers head tenancy (HTS), university managed accommodation, for those who are not eligible for halls. These HTS properties are local to the campus and are shared houses, rather than flats. The accommodation service can help you to meet other new students to move into this type of accommodation with.
Brook Street Halls: 398 rooms which are just a ten minute walk from the main campus.
Hughenden Park Student Village is a new purpose-built student village with 230 rooms. This new accommodation also provides a limited number of en-suite studio apartments with balconies.
The accommodation office can also help with finding a house to live in with their Head Tenancy Scheme, which includes housing managed by the university.
The accommodation service has a list of local private sector landlords and landladies and can check over any tenancy agreements for you before you sign.
The Students' Union offers a social area for students to meet in during the day or evening. There are different events which take place throughout the year to help students improve their social links within the university.
The Students' Union also plans trips into the London to the theatre and many more. All trip ideas are welcome!
All drinks at the Union are very cheap when compared to town prices. Themed nights such as Quiz nights will offer all drinks from £1.50 or club nights which also have drinks deals.
The teaching quality at the university is of a high standard and includes many lecturers that have worked within the industry sector. Most recently Bucks won What uni's Student Choice Award in the ‘Course & Lecturers’ category.
