Applying to Uni in the US

Getting Started

Should you decide to study in the United States, the choice of universities is colossal ranging from eminent universities like Harvard and MIT to unheard of universities like Rockies College. There are many rankings that can help gauge a university's reputation and academic excellence. One useful one is compiled by US News & World Report, and can be found here. Another ranking can be found here.

Once you have decided which universities/colleges you wish to apply to, it is useful to visit their website and order a free prospectus (most universities will be more than happy to comply)and visit the International Undergraduate Admissions Page and view the various deadlines, requirements and tuition fees.

If you are thinking of applying to the US you should now read the full in depth guide to applying there. It tells you when to apply, what you need to apply with, how to make your applications and loads of info about how to fund your US study:

Applying to an Australian University

Applying to Australian Higher Education institutions differs from applications to the UK in the fact that there is no centralised system like UCAS. Applications are usually sent directly to the respective institutions, which usually charge application fees between 40-100 Australian Dollars.

The application fee can be waivered if you apply online or through a universities registered Uk agent (they are listed on the university website. The application process is based on results or predicted results for undergraduate study, they do not require a personal statement. Degree entrance requirements are based on points - 5 for an A, 4 for a B, 3 for a C, 2 for a D and 1 for an E. Generally the top universities are looking for between 11 and 14. For postgraduate applications students are required to submit original copies of university transcripts and degree certificate. The Australian academic year runs from February to November and applications generally close at the end of November.

Applying to Uni in Canada

One piece of advice: if you are unsure whether you really want to attend a specific Canadian university, wait until after you have heard from many of your other university choices--they generally have significantly later deadlines but costly application fees. However, the application process is quick to fill in because they are interested in your level of grade attainment.
