Location

Situated near the centre of Cambridge, the college represents an ideal trade off between proximity to amenities and faculties. Accomodation outside college remains within reasonable distance of college.

Accommodation

In college:

  • Old Court - no bathrooms in the same staircase even, no sinks in rooms either (but sinks just outside)
  • New Court - generally quite nice rooms, but some can be quite small and some don't have sinks
  • Stable Yard - Rooms in S are nice. And Y has some en-suites, though not the first-year rooms college has reserved for next year.

Out of college:

  • Bene't - no en-suites, but rooms are generally nice as far as I've seen (though some rooms can be tiny, and others have low ceilings). Kitchens are horrendous though.
  • Beldam - all en-suite, and great kitchens
  • Botolph - honestly no idea. I know there's some en-suites, but not for first years? Also there's apparently only one shower in the whole of Botolph (though they're quite a few baths)
  • Newnham - second year "ghetto" (with some fourth years next year), good kitchens and shower facilities apparently.
  • T-street - great kitchens and shower facilities as well

Self-catering - my kitchen sucks, but that's probably because I'm living in Benet Street and most of the kitchens in Benet aren't that great. (Also because I have people sharing the kitchen who NEVER wash up, making it constantly impossible to use the sink and hence rendering the kitchen useless.) However, the state of the kitchens varies very greatly with where in college you live - though those in I staircase don't even have a hob (due to proximity to the Parker library), the kitchens in Beldam are amazing, and I've heard that those in Newnham, T Street and Y staircase are fantastic as well.

Social Spaces

Library and Computing

The Taylor Library has recently opened following extensive building work to the northern end of the college. Situated over three floors, it is comfortable, quiet and has plenty of books. Perfect.

Welfare

Atmosphere

Corpus is Cambridge's second smallest college in terms of undergraduate numbers. As a result, it has a very close-knit community. This can be a huge benefit in that you can make lots of close friends across different years and disciplines, but can also be annoying as gossip about you can get round the entire college in not a long time at all!

Facilities

College food has a high average but a huge standard deviation. Basically, it's generally not bad, with the occasional truly amazing meal and the occasional not-as-amazing meal. Not too sure about the vegetarian option as I don't usually take it, but for regular meals, choosing between the vegetarian option and other options is just a matter of going there and telling them which main course you want. =) For formal halls and other formal dinners though you'd need to tell them beforehand if you want the vegetarian option.

There's a music practice room in Beldam with an upright piano and lots of scores. All you have to do to get access to it is to sign up on the music list (don't need to have any grades etc), and book it or get the keys from the porters if no one is using it.
