Corpus Christi College, Oxford
From The Student RoomTSR Wiki > University > Choosing a University > University Guides > Oxford > Corpus Christi College, Oxford
LocationNear the town centre, but off on a side street -quiet yet convenient. Very useful for students with lectures in the Exam Halls (e.g. Historians[?]) and about 15minutes walk from science area. AccommodationAccommodation for duration of undergraduate degree. Nicest generally seen to be the quad rooms. There is also accommodation in Magpie Lane houses, Thomas Building (built in 1920s, but kept very much in with the aesthetics of the older college buildings) and New Building (most freshers housed here, generally agreed to be slightly naff, nicer and older annex). More college owned accommodation further off-site on Banbury Road and in the Lidell Complex. Social SpacesCosy, reasonably busy, wood-panelled JCR and an equally pleasant, wood-panelled MCR. There's also a beer cellar (containing pool table, jukebox and quiz machine), although this can be disturbingly empty at times. Library and Computing24 hour library. Named one of the Modern Wonders of the World by the not-so-modern Dutch scholar Erasmus. WelfareWelfare provides free cakes and biccies every now and then, presumably to prevent student starvation. I'm sure the Welfare Reps would be incredibly helpful if approached. AtmosphereCorpus is small, but friendly. Reasonable cross-year socialising. Some of the final year students do seem to start to find the social scene slightly claustrophobic, but obviously social lives can extend outside of college. FacilitiesConstruction on new music room just beginning. Old New Music Room (NMR) being deconstructed at same time. Student-eye view |
