The modern Learning Zones offer spaces to prepare for presentations, and DMU's new @ccess anywhere initiative means you can access the library by Internet or phone 24/7.
IT and ComputingThere are around 2000 computers available around the University plus a wireless network available across the City Campus. You will be given your own email address and many courses and modules offer e-learning support (also known as online learning), this is great as you can test yourself with online quizzes and have easy access to lecture notes. The University has innovative teaching, with e-learning offering blogs, wikis, virtual seminars and access to lesson notes and feedback. Each Faculty has their own computing centre. The University also gives students the option to buy a computer at a reduced price. SportsThe University has its own multi-purpose sports centre on campus (John Sandford Sports Centre) and is within walking distance of all halls of residence. It has a sports hall which plays host to basketball games between local team Leicester Riders and other national teams. The Sports Centre also has facilities for badminton, squash, various martial arts, indoor tennis, plus a wide range of fitness equipment, saunas and solariums. You can purchase a sports card for as little as £44 for 12 months! WelfareThe University has a comprehensive support system in place to help meet student's academic, personal and social needs. This includes healthcare, welfare and education advisors, counselling, a specialist disability unit, a multicultural chaplaincy and religious support service, financial advisers and assistance with childcare. HealthcareThere is a Student Health Centre on Campus with nine doctors and four nurses. It’s open from 8.00am to 5.00pm weekdays. ShopsThe city centre has a wide variety of shops. There are two main shopping centres including Highcross – a £350 million complex featuring over 100 shops including a flagship John Lewis store, 15 restaurants and cafés and Leicester’s first city centre multiplex cinema, Cinema De Lux. As well as this there are lots of independent shops scattered around the main High Street and Europe’s largest undercover market. Whatever your taste you will find the shop for you, from TopShop to New Look, from pound shops to upmarket art shops. Leicester holds a diverse range of shops, matching its diverse culture. A short ride away from the city centre is Fosse Park. This well-established retail park features big name stores such as Next, Monsoon, Borders and Gap, plus supermarkets (ASDA and Sainsbury’s) and places to eat (Pizza Hut, McDonalds and Costa Coffee). RestaurantsThe city centre has a range of restaurants to cater for all taste whether you enjoy Indian, Chinese, or Mexican food. The city has a Nandos, Pizza Express, Subway, The Real Burger Co, Carluccios, Yo! Sushi and Wagamama, amongst many others. There’s definitely not a short supply of places to eat! BanksLeicester is home to all the major banks, with some having large city centre branches. TransportLeicester is situated on the Midland Mainline and has direct services to London St Pancras. The trains run frequently and reliably. From Leicester to London costs roughly just over £30 (with a valid Young Persons Railcard), that’s if you leave bookings till the last minute. The city centre also has a good transport service with plenty of buses. There are two bus stations in the city where you can get to most parts of the city and surrounding areas. You can buy a yearly student bus pass for £238. There’s also a free service on the Hospital Hopper going to Charles Frears Campus (where Nursing and Midwifery courses are held), just show your student card. The city also has a strong cycle network. Careers ServiceThere are dedicated careers advisers who offer help with CVs, applying for jobs, interview techniques and more. They also run fairs and events throughout the year such as Fashion Arts Media East Midlands (a great creative industries fair) and Leicestershire Student and Graduate Fair (one of the biggest job fairs in the region) where you could find a graduate job. Part-time JobsThe university has a recruitment agency called DMUWorks, which helps you to find part-time or voluntary work while you’re at University. There are many bars and shops around the Campus and City that offer student jobs to fit around study, plus the University offers the opportunity for students to become a Student Ambassador and get paid for promoting the University at open days and helping out in general.Religious FacilitiesStudent Services provide flexible and responsive support to all students. They provide a multi-faith chaplaincy and religious to help find places of worship and faith communities in Leicester and to put you in contact with other students of the same faith.

SocialBars, Pubs and ClubsThe city centre has many bars, pubs and clubs. In the centre there are countless bars. There is r'bar which is famed for its shots, Time near the station with its award-winning cocktails, as well as The Orange Tree and O Bar, as well as the usual Lloyds and Wetherspoons. The city also has a large amount of clubs. There is Fan Club for indie/rock lovers and Zanzibar and Liquid for pop lovers. There are also many others including Life, Mosh, Redeemer, and Streetlife. There’s also loads of coffee bars and cafés around the city, where you can chill out, chat or catch up on reading. If you want a pub to watch sport in, there are quite a few situated in and around the City Campus. There's The Gateway (which is on Campus) who’ll show any sport if you ask; The Bricklayers Arms is a good pre-match pub showing a whole range of sports, and O’Neills (in town) show most of the big matches from the Premiership, as well as rugby and much more. EventsThere are many events held throughout the year. These include the Fashion Shows, cultural eXchanges, where celebrities from the arts world come and give talks, the Distinguished Lecture Series, Congress to Campus, where American Politicians come and discuss politics, Open Days, Degree shows, and Fashion Arts Media Eastmidlands (FAME) which is one of the biggest Creative industries events in the Midlands.

AccommodationAll DMU’s accommodation is within walking distance of the Campus. The halls are modern and high quality, and located in a safe and comfortable environment. Guaranteed accommodation All undergraduates on a full-time course are guaranteed a place in a hall of residence in their first year. This is also offered to international students throughout their course. Facilities Facilities vary from hall-to-hall, and include on-site management, caretaker service, disabled access, hand basins in study bedrooms, CCTV, secure post areas and Internet access. Lots of rooms have en-suite bathroom facilities and all are self catering. Private sector There is plenty of private accommodation available in and around the campus. The Housing Office have a list of recommended landlords, and can help you check your contract before you sign it. Student UnionPrices at the Union are very reasonable and there are frequent drink promotions available. De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) has several media outlets on campus for you to get involved with. These include a newspaper, radio station and TV station, all run by the students. There are also over 80 different clubs and societies covering everything from Football, Rugby, Hockey and Religion, to Rock, Poi, Jiu Jitsu, Gaming and Burlesque. The Football and Rugby teams play varsity matches against the University of Leicester at the Walkers Stadium and Welford Road rugby ground.
