Experiences

If you have applied to Grant Thornton, we would like you to hear from you. Please use the following form to detail your experiences of application, to aid those interested in following a similar career path.

Position applied for: Assurance Graduate
Year of Application: 2009
Region: London
Educational Background: Economics and Finance

What were your experiences of the application process?
The application is a standard competency based application with around 4 questions to answer. The telephone interview is straight forward and many of my friends have easily passed it without doing much research or preparation. If you are having an interview with HR (rather than a manager/partner) just reel off some facts and figures and this impresses them a lot as some they dont even know about. They are very friendly though and try your best to get on their good side. When having lunch with current grads, listen to what they say as this can be used in the interview process.

What is it like working for Grant Thornton?
Assurance is the same everywhere but the support for exams is quite poor. That being said they have a dedicated centre outside of London for training which reminds you of your university days.

How has it compared to your expectations?
Clients have varied, form small disorganized clients to large clients in the city. This is very helpful though as I expected to not have much responsibility but depending on your client your responsibility varies greatly.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I have left the company to pursue a career in investment banking.

Finally, any advice you would give to potential applicants?
Research the company (as always) and make sure you understand that they arent as big as the Big4 but gaining the ACA from GT is well regarded.
