Social Spaces

The Hughes' MCR (Middle Common Room) contains the college bar, pool table, large television, table-football, coffee machine and plenty of comfortable seating.

Formal Halls currently occur on the Tuesday and Thursday of Michaelmas, and Thursdays in the Lent and Easter terms.

Library and Computing

Hughes' library can be found in the Margaret Wileman building and offers a range of books and other reference materials targeted at the mature undergraduates and taught M.Phil's that the college admits.

There is also a quiet work area with 12 personal study carrels with online catalogue searching enabled. The library is open to college members 24 hours a day via card key, and has a self-issue terminal which allows for books to be borrowed at any time.

The college provides a computer connection in every room, as well as 15 public use computers and printing/photocopying in the old dining room above the MCR.

Welfare

Atmosphere

As a mature college, the population of Hughes is made up of those undertaking graduate courses such as the LLM, Part III Maths, PCGE, or mature/affiliated undergraduates. As with most of the graduate colleges, it has a lively make-up of both Home and International students.

Facilities

There are two laundries in college; one in the Margaret Wileman Building, and the other in Fenners. Fenners' also contains the college dining hall.

Hughes is also situated a few hundred metres from Mill Road which houses many independent shops and a wide range of restaurants.
