LocationApproximately 10 minutes walk from the train station, Hughes Hall can be found on the 'outskirts' of town, conveniently located next to the huge space-age style Kelsey Kerridge gym. AccommodationFenners Centenary Building Chancellors Court Wolleston Lodge Margaret Wileman Building College Houses Social SpacesThe Hughes' MCR (Middle Common Room) contains the college bar, pool table, large television, table-football, coffee machine and plenty of comfortable seating. Formal Halls currently occur on the Tuesday and Thursday of Michaelmas, and Thursdays in the Lent and Easter terms. Library and ComputingHughes' library can be found in the Margaret Wileman building and offers a range of books and other reference materials targeted at the mature undergraduates and taught M.Phil's that the college admits. There is also a quiet work area with 12 personal study carrels with online catalogue searching enabled. The library is open to college members 24 hours a day via card key, and has a self-issue terminal which allows for books to be borrowed at any time. The college provides a computer connection in every room, as well as 15 public use computers and printing/photocopying in the old dining room above the MCR. WelfareAtmosphereAs a mature college, the population of Hughes is made up of those undertaking graduate courses such as the LLM, Part III Maths, PCGE, or mature/affiliated undergraduates. As with most of the graduate colleges, it has a lively make-up of both Home and International students. FacilitiesThere are two laundries in college; one in the Margaret Wileman Building, and the other in Fenners. Fenners' also contains the college dining hall. Hughes is also situated a few hundred metres from Mill Road which houses many independent shops and a wide range of restaurants. Student-eye view |
