Location and HistoryJames College is located in the South of the main campus next to the sports centre and Goodricke College. It is named after Lord James, the first Vice-Chancellor of the University. The current Provost is Ken Todd who also lectures in electronics. James College was built in approximately 1989 and was originally intended to be postgraduate accommodation. In 1993/4 blocks DE and F were built and James then became the 7th Undergraduate college. DepartmentsUnlike most colleges James College does not house an academic department. The department of Psychology is however in the grounds of James College. AccommodationBlocks A, B and C are standard rooms while D-M are en-suite. Blocks A-F are houses over 3 floors with 16 people to a kitchen. Blocks G-M are flats with 8 people to a kitchen (with the exception of G1 which only has 4). It is rumoured that blocks D, E and F were built to 4* hotel standards for the conference guests who use the rooms during the Easter and Summer vacations. Social SpacesGardensJames college is made up of Quads with blocks surrounding a central grassy area. The DEF quad is where the biggest James College event, Quad Dash, is held every year. These areas are popular during the summer term. Dining roomJames College houses the Roger Kirk centre, which opens all year and provides food and drink, as well as a Costa Coffee house. BarJames College's bar is called McQ's and is just across the car park from the College. The Bar is famous on campus for its pub quiz league, which gave away a television as its overall prize in the Summer term. JCRThe JCR is located besides A and C block overlooking Wentworth and the lake. It has a key-card entry system so only 1st years can enter easily. Inside is a TV with non-subscription Sky and comfy chairs. James now has a second JCR near the Roger Kirk and McQ's, which can be opened by anyone, and has a TV with Sky, Pool Tables and an Arcade Machine. Study rooms, lecture theaters and ComputingJames College does not have any study rooms, lecture theatres or computer suites. The nearest study rooms and computer suites are in Goodricke and Wentworth college. Goodricke colleges facilities are open 24 hours a day.
