London Metropolitan University formed in 2002 when London Guildhall University and the University of North London merged. The University now has two main campuses, one in the City and the other in Islington on Holloway Road - both are very central in London. London Met is quite literally huge - with over 30,000 students - it is one of the biggest universities in the UK. London Met has more international students than almost any other UK University including over 190 different nationalities, making for a truly cosmopolitan environment.

Academic Reputation

London Metropolitan University chooses not to appear in the privately-organised university league tables as the institution believes that the British Government should be the formal assessor the universities, rather than newspapers' tables.

The quality higher-education teaching here at the LMU is assessed through the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), and in the most recent Institutional Audit, the QAA concluded that they had "broad confidence" in the LMU's management, the quality of its academic programmes and the academic standards of its awards.

Healthcare

Shops

Restaurants

There are canteens on campus, however being in central London you're never far from a fast food outlet. Being polite, food from the canteen is not of the best quality.

Banks

Transport

Buses run past the Holloway based camps regularly, such as the 43. There is also a tube station right outside the university - Holloway road - on the Piccadilly line.

Careers service

Part-time jobs

There are many jobs available off campus, not so much on campus. However, as the university is in central London it's advised to enquire early about vacancies.

Social

Bars, Pubs and clubs

The University directly manages two award-winning social facilities: The Rocket complex and courtyard located on Holloway Road at North campus; and Hub Bar located on Goulston Street at City campus. The Rocket is renowned for its famous club night, which was once voted best student night out in London by Time Out. At Sub Bar, refurbished after years of neglect in the 1990s, events include acoustic/open mic nights, live bands, quiz and comedy nights, club and dj nights.

Holloway might not be to everyones taste, its bit of rough area, and you would not be advised walking during the night alone, saying that it is London, so everywhere is the same in that respect.
