Location

  • 0.6 miles from the University Library.
  • 0.78 miles from the Sidgwick site (Classics, English, MML, Law, History, Theology, Economics, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies).
  • 0.86 miles from the West Cambridge site with the Cavendish physics laboratory and the Computer Laboratory.
  • 1.29 miles for the Engineering department on Trumpington Street.
  • 1.49 miles from the Chemistry department on Lensfield Road.
  • 2.23 miles from the railway station.

(All distances measured on gmaps pedometer)

Women only?

It really is totally different to going to an all girls school, the comparison just isn't there. The women's colleges are only (mostly) single sex in terms of the domestic accommodation ie where you (usually) sleep. All your lectures and free time are completely mixed, societies, clubs, additional lectures etc are all mixed. You function in a mixed world, you just go home to clean bathrooms!

Accommodation

There are six accomodation blocks on-site:

  • 2 converted victorian houses called Barrmore (image) and Strathaird House (image)
  • 4 new, purpose-built blocks called De Brye (image), Warburton hall (image), Bertram and Oldham Hall (image)

There are also a number of college-owned houses including two on Chesterton Road called Lyttleton Colony.

Academic Performance

Atmosphere

There is no high table at Lucy Cavendish so students, staff and fellows all eat together.

Facilities

  • Canteen and dining hall
  • Cafe style student bar and conservatory
  • 24/7 Library with some 20,000 books and a photocopier.
  • Large common room (Paul Paget Room, Oldham Hall) with wide-screen TV + video, newspapers, vending machines and coffee-making facilities
  • A second common room
