What is it?

The NUS Mature Students Campaign is one of NUS’ youngest campaigns. The campaign exists to defend and extend the right of mature students in both Further and Higher Education, and to tackle the barriers and stigmas that mature students face in education.

What does it do?

The work of the campaign is lead and guided by the Mature Students National Committee (MSNC) and the NUS Welfare Vice-President, who is a part of the national executive of NUS. The MSNC is democratically elected at our annual mature students conference. They carry out the work of the campaign by creating and promoting national campaigns. The work is led and guided by the Vice-President.

Who can join?

Anyone can join in with the campaign, although to attend the national conference you must be from an NUS affiliated union. Many FE and HE institutions have NUS affiliated unions, however, if you don't then contact NUS and they will help you get on the road to affiliation.

Each year, around May, there is a national conference where delegates are sent from most HE institutions and many FE institutions. At the conference there are seminars, lecture, discussions and the chance to change NUS policy regarding mature students. Alongside this there is a great chance to socialise with other mature students from other institutions. You can also stand to be elected to the MSNC.

What is happening now?

Currently the campaign is working hard to secure better recognition and rights for student parents. More information on the student parent movement can be found by visiting their dedicated NUS page.
