On campus there is a shop and a book shop, so you can et the basics of what you need really easy and close to the halls and academic buildings. RestaurantsBanksTransportThe university provides a free bus service between the 2 campuses. The buses are regular between campuses as well as to town and the railway station. Good transport locally. Northampton generally has good rail links.
Careers serviceNorthampton has a careers service at both Park Campus and Avenue Campus. They are available for one to one career meetings where they can advise you on CVs, applications, courses, general careers advice, jobs, graduation and any information you may require about your career. They hold workshops such as CV clinics on a regular basis. There are also regular events such as careers fairs at Park Campus. They also provide full listings of part time jobs in the area as well as listings of graduate jobs in most sectors. Part-time jobsPart time jobs in the area are wide, and the Careers Service can provide listings and contacts. Religious facilitiesSocialIt's not half as bad as people make out nightlife wise, its one of those places where you can have as good a time as you want to. There are regular nights at places like Soundhaus, The Racehorse and others for you rock fans and there is plenty for other tastes too. Bars, Pubs and clubsYour Union isn't just about bars, events, food, sport and shops! No - it's a democratically run organisation designed to represent student views and provide for your welfare and well-being. Your Union is effectively a not-for-profit organisation - it runs commercial services such as bars, shops, diners, entertainment in order to a. provide social infrastructure for the student and staff community, with the emphasis on value for money products in a SAFE and friendly environment, and b. reinvest any surpluses that the commercial operations make back into the Union - to reinvest in refurbishment or development of services and activities and to support non-commercial operations such as advice and representation, training, clubs and societies, media and the website. Every penny you spend in Union bars, shops or catering outlets, or on event tickets - goes back into the Union and benefits you and your friends and students still to come... not into the back pocket of some external corporation or company which takes your cash off campus and gives nothing back to make your college a better place to be and enjoy and grow in!The more you use it - the more it can develop and the more it can do for you and - because students run it - the more it can do with you! The university itself is modern, low-rise and functional, yet hardly beautiful, and the town itself is not much better, although the Victorian Guildhall in the centre of town is striking. Greyfriars bus station, on the other hand, designed in the Seventies, is an appalling example of public building gone wrong: dingy and dirty, it was recently featured in the TV series Demolition. Local areaIt's an alright area with little crime, and fairly low living costs. There's not a lot to do in the town itself in terms of nightlife or culture, but Milton Keynes is only a very short train or bus journey and there is more on offer there. London is also accessible on the train. The town is situated in a fairly rural environment: plenty of picturesque villages if you fancy a day out.
