Aeronautical Engineering Personal Statement

I have always loved aeroplanes; from the time I was given my first radio controlled model aircraft. I have planned an aircraft career from an early age. On a fundamental level I know how these wonderful machines fly but my ambition is to have a greater knowledge of the science behind the aircraft and as a result aeronautical engineering would be a very interesting subject for a career

My father flies microlights so this gives me basic but valuable experience as to the conditions of all aspects of flying

As well as flying model aircraft I also build them and from building these model aircraft it gives me an idea as to how aircraft may be structured, the fact that full size aircraft contain a wide range of complex materials and has a multitude of sensors making continuous measurements. From these, decisions can be made manipulate mechanical surfaces to achieve a required flight pattern in an airborne environment that requires an understanding of the mechanics of the aircraft

My work experience has included working in a computer shop where I was required to install software and build computer systems with supervision. I also worked at Bodmin airport that included a variety of jobs around the airfield

My main hobby is flying model aeroplanes at my club. It gives me great satisfaction to teach someone else how to fly and know that they will have this skill for the rest of their life

Apart from an interest in aircraft, I also have a keen interest in tennis. I belong to a club and regulary play doubles and single matches. In the past I have also played football at a local level and have achieved grades 1 and 3 in piano and have played grades five and six at local concerts. I enjoy all my A-level subjects especially physics, which I have liked from an early age and I have been fascinated in all types of mechanical and electrical devices including machinery

These interests are the reasons why aeronautical engineering would be a firm interest to me.
