Biotechnology Personal Statement

"Biologists rely on what the nature is. Technologists create that which has never been. But biotechnologists can control the nature in human purposes." This is the reason why I passionately choose biotechnology as my life pursuit. During my entire undergraduate career, I have the opportunity to be exposed to the full range of biotechnological courses and trainings, all of which tended to reinforce and solidify my intense interest in biotechnology. I’ve also had the opportunity to study a number of subjects in bioethics and humanities which provide me a new perspective on the world in which biotechnology can be powerful but still be controlled by human-being.

In the realm of biotechnology, I have developed a special interest in the field of plant enzymes-related molecular engineering. Currently, I am doing the final-year research project about overproducing anticancer agents-related enzymes in transgenic tomatoes in the University of Nottingham, one of the best universities about bio-research. Spending nearly 50 hours per week in the lab with my supervisors, I feel very confident in my theoretical and practical abilities to contribute for my future graduate research project. My entire four supervisors were sufficiently impressed with my work to ask whether I consider taking a PhD degree here. However, because the department currently lacks of research project about engineering plant enzymes, I have to consider other projects of other universities. At the first time I looked for the PhD project, I felt very ambitious in joining the project of …. His research target has fulfilled all my achievements for my future studies and my career as well. The project will be related to ....

Outside my studies, I like to read books and socialise with my friends. I am always very friendly, interpersonal and almost the centre of every conservations. I have only had one job to date. I have worked as lead housekeeper in several campuses of my university. During that time, I have learnt a lot of different skills such as responsibility to do a job properly, leadership to manage the equal work for my friends and reliability from my manager. The thing I always keep in mind that every single job, how small it is, still needs a professional management and every single person has different abilities, skills and characteristics. The trick is how we can lead and work with them for a friendly and efficient environment.

I am also aware of the excellent reputation of your university, and my conservations with several alumni have served to deepen my interest in attending. I know that, in addition to your excellent top 10 university, your faculty of plant research is among the best in the UK. With my particular interests and experiences, I hope you will give me the privilege of continuing my studies at your fine institution.
