Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence Personal Statement
From a young I was deeply intrigued by technology in particular the field of AI in robotics, video games and futuristic novels. This curiosity kept growing over time and when my mother bought our first computer I know it was time for me to find out some answers. My interest in AI ignited when watching ASIMO the humanoid robot on TV, it was an experience that blew me away and one that I will never forget. From there I’ve always had the dream of building intelligent machines that will perform tasks that would help the human race in the near future so choosing a degree in Computer Science is a vital component regarding higher education.
I’m currently studying A level in Computing a discipline that taught me the principles behind computer systems. It educated me to overcome challenges by applying logic, primarily mathematical; to many problems in addition to that it gave me a clear insight of many computer languages. I learned how to programme in Visual Basic by using efficient algorithms that would allow me to create many programmes from basic computer games to bill calculating software. This year I will start programming in Prolog, a language that I’m excited about knowing the fact that it’s very much associated with artificial intelligence. I’m also studying psychology a subject that increased my analytical and reasoning skills by understand the human mind and behaviour in more depths. It increased my knowledge of how the brain functions and from what I have learned, most inventors, engineers and designers use human’s brain and the biological neural network as a template for the artificial neural network allowing the AI to have characteristics more of human than that of a basic machine. Speaking of networks I’m on my way to become a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) already obtaining CCNA 1 and on course for CCNA 2&3.
I have a passion for video games and read technology related book and magazines. I admire the works of authors such as Ray Kurzweil who always tend say interesting statements on the development of human and mechanical intelligence and enjoy playing 1st person shooters video games . Furthermore I’m a junior sports leader (JSLA) due to the fact I enjoy sports and willing to help other with it I’m also a certified paramedic with St John’s Ambulance that helped me very much on dealing with emergency situations.
I believe higher educations will take me to the frontline of technology, expanding my horizons and motivation as well as present me with the knowledge so that I will be more than ready for workplace.
