Drama and History Personal Statement

I would like to study History as an undergraduate because I find the subject fascinating. After studying it for both GCSE and A-level, Modern History has become a prime interest - in particular World War 2, the Cold War and the politics of the 20th Century in general. I have recently visited Germany where we spent time in Berlin, Austria and the Czech Republic on a college History trip. Visits to De Mauthausen concentration camp and the German resistance memorial centre Plotzensee were both very moving and memorable events. Wider historical experience has been gained by visits to 'English Heritage' sites and re-enactments over a period of years. My focus on History is reflected in my other A-level studies of Performing Arts and Art. Here I have used historical sources as inspiration for my pieces. Taking a history related degree at university will give me an opportunity to develop further my knowledge of the social, political and economic changes that have occurred, establishing the world in which we live today

I also have a very strong interest in Drama. I have been a member of youth theatres for numerous years and became involved with as many school and college productions as possible including 'Herod' in 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'Caliban' in 'The Tempest' and Willie Mossop in 'Hobson's Choice'. My interests in drama have increased over the years. I enjoy live theatre and this year I attended the Edinburgh Festival for the fourth time

I would be interested in the possibility of studying both History and Drama at some universities. Alternatively, I will continue my drama through participating in the dramatic societies within the university

As well as my studies, I have organised my time so that I can have a part time job in a large supermarket. I am a determined and enthusiastic person and I have strong ambitions to go into either broadcasting or acting. In either case I will definitely study a post graduate course after my degree. I believe that I have a lot to offer and I am keen to take up the challenges of higher education
