The success of any business depends upon a manager’s or an owner’s ability to make precise, accurate and correct decisions. These decisions can be taken in various forms such as price, output, costs and investment among others. I have a strong passion for the business world and it is my desire to be a part of and contribute to the fast moving and rapidly changing world of business. When I carried out my vocational work placement at a local manufacturing firm I was exposed to the trading and manufacturing market and to private sector activities. I came to see how economic fundamentals such as demand and supply, economies of scale, efficiency and various methods of pricing and non pricing techniques affect the competitiveness and well being of a firm thus determining the market share it possess. Furthermore economics as a subject is fascinating and learning it at A level has helped me to understand how some firms can be successful and make profits and how others fail and making losses. My understanding of the business world is that it is extremely competitive and challenging but given the right skills and knowledge one can be successful. While working I also understood how operations of small and medium sized firms contribute and affect the development of an economy and that these firms are the key to a thriving economy. Having also worked at an insurance broking firm, I was introduced to the financial and risk management industry. I found myself to develop a strong interest in the concepts of investments and insurance and realize the role it plays in safety and welfare of a firm. Deeply intrigued by the prices, buying and selling of shares, I hope to work at a stock exchange as an investment banker. To satisfy my thirst for adventure and outdoor activities, I have successfully accomplished the Presidents Award Scheme and have attained the gold award. This has equipped me with leadership, teamwork, navigation and camp craft skills. In addition it has also enhanced my physical attributes. To relax and take time off school and studying, I enjoy listening to music, watching movies and in general spending quality time with friends. Being a keen fan of the English premier league, I love watching and playing football among other sports which include squash and tennis. I have also participated in annual school events such as the sports day and cross-country. In a bid to help the less fortunate I have participated in several community and fundraising events. One such was fundraising to help people with eye problems and blindness while anther fundraising was for the renovation of a local hospital. The UK is known for its reputable and world class universities which offer the highest quality of higher education. Studying at a UK university would enable me to meet and interact with people from various backgrounds and cultures and thus expanding my intellectual horizons. In addition I also look forward to getting involved in both the academic and social aspects of university life.
