Event Management Personal StatementThere has become an increasing demand in recent years for Event Managers to organise many kinds of events. Events management ranges from small local events to nationwide conferences and with the London 2012 Olympic Games on the horizon; the sector is expected to continue to grow. My interest in studying Events Management first began at a young age; I have always had an interest in the operation and running of events. Then, during a work experience placement at the Ramada Hotel my interest began to grow. As a sixth form student, I selected to study Travel and Tourism; successfully achieving a Distinction in OCR Level 3 National Certificate. My desire is to continue my studies into higher education to equip me with the necessary knowledge and qualifications to begin a successful career in the events industry. I have learnt that there is a wide range of employment options in the industry and feel that this course will give me the opportunity to experience the different sectors. I am particularly interested to progress into management within the field and believe the Event Management course will give me the relevant knowledge and experience to direct my career path. I thoroughly enjoyed studying the Travel and Tourism course; in particular I found the module on marketing very interesting, as this gave me an insight into the business side of the sector. The module entitled 'How the Airport Sector Works' gave me the opportunity to study and gain knowledge on the vast range of employment options, as well as an in-depth view at the major airports in the UK, and I believe this interest was reflected in my final marks. During my time at sixth form my confidence and interpersonal skills were enhanced and I now wish to develop these skills further and succeed at a higher level of education. I am a hard working, committed and punctual student, with proven experience in working under stressful conditions and meeting deadlines. Above all, I am determined to succeed and finish everything I start to the best of my ability. I have a positive and confident personality, allowing me to develop and keep positive friendships. Predominately, sixth form has taught me how to be responsible and mature in my studies to develop as an adult learner. As well as being committed to further education in my chosen career, I enjoy an active lifestyle including attending different sporting and social events with family and friends. Frequently I am the main organiser of such outings and excel at the booking process including the organisation of travel arrangements. My main passion is following sport and in particular I enjoy watching and playing soccer. I have been an avid supporter of Chester FC from a very young age; following them both home and away. I have found the experience of visiting and exploring new towns and cities throughout England, planning the method of travel, booking tickets and the social side an enjoyable experience. This has influenced my interest in event management. I have been an active participant in soccer from a young age and spent my youth playing for a local team. For eight consecutive seasons I held the position of Vice Captain and enjoyed contributing to the team spirit and dressing room banter. Being a spectator and participator in sport as well as studying for my A Levels meant my time management skills were tested. I succeeded through prioritising my work; meeting course deadlines, leaving me time to socialise. These time management skills would be of great benefit in a higher education setting and I am tremendously committed to completing a degree in my chosen field. I am committed to a career in the event management industry and welcome the opportunity to develop my skills and gain more knowledge at a higher level of education. I eagerly await your response to my application and look forward to the prospect of studying at university.
