Personal Statement:History 3TSR Wiki > Applications > Personal Statement Library > Personal Statement:History 3 History Personal StatementI have always had a particular interest in history, especially ancient and medieval history. Although I study modern history at A2, I also study Classics, and have studied GCSE Latin, both of which have given me an insight into ancient history My interest has lead to numerous visits to historical sites including; Hadrian's wall and surrounding fortifications; the south of France and sites such as Pont du Garde and les Antiques; Castles and historical buildings throughout England, Scotland and Wales; museums including the British museum and the Ashmolean; school study trips with Latin to Italy (to Rome and Sorrento, including Pompeii and Herculaneum) and with Classics to Greece (to Athens and the acropolis, Delphi, Olympia, Mycenae Epidavros and Corinth). I feel that these visits have broadened my appreciation for historical sites as well as expanding my knowledge of history itself This history course will allow me to pursue a subject which has always interested me. I hope that it will allow me to explore in greater depth the events and eras that have shaped the modern world, whilst teaching me new skills associated with the study of history. It will lead me to a broader understanding of the world and also, hopefully, into a fulfilling career, probably related to history Aside from being a hard working, enthusiastic student, I also help at a local Brownie Pack every Thursday as a pre-warrant helper. I have achieved the Millennium Volunteers award as a result of this, and hope to become a registered leader. I am currently working towards the two hundred hour award by helping at brownies and also at a Sunday school class for ages 11-13 on alternate Sundays. I also help with the leadership and planning of the School Christian Union, which meets twice a week. I have achieved the Trident Gold Award and am involved in music via the Church music group. On alternate Saturdays, I work in a small health food shop, where I have the responsibilities of handling money, and advising customers when necessary. I feel this job has helped to further develop my interpersonal skills I believe that this degree course is perfect for me, as it encompasses the periods of history which interest me most and which I would like to study in greater depth. I am also attracted by the wide choice of topics offered. I would be an ideal student as I will easily become engrossed in the subject, I would benefit greatly from the opportunity to study at degree level and, as my community involvement demonstrates, I would have much to contribute to university life in general.
