History Personal StatementI would like to study a course in History because I am very interested in the subject and feel I am capable of taking it further. I have enjoyed all parts of both the Standard Grade and Higher Level courses and would love to put my enthusiasm back into the subject so as to succeed at a higher level I enjoy a variety of team sports activities, such as football and basketball. I also enjoy skateboarding with my friends at the local skate park, which I helped raise funds for. I have a strong sense of team spirit and enjoy working with other people Other than sports, I enjoy a variety of leisure activities. I play guitar in a band and have taken part in a gig for charity. I enjoy listening to a wide range of music, and I socialise by meeting up with my friends at night, and at band practises In school, I represent my year group as secretary of the Pupil Council and have done so for three years. I have also participated in the Dumfries and Galloway games and attended various careers conventions I have attended a three-day pupil council training course and improved my knowledge and participation in the council. I have also attended a regional Pupil Councils' conference at which representatives from different schools in the region discussed their localised problems and also more regional issues As part of the school's work experience programme, I took part in a work placement at Littlewoods and Index stores in Dumfries, doing basic work in the stockroom. This took place in June 2002 and lasted for three days. I did this to expand my knowledge of the workplace and its environment. I also worked for a two-month period at the Balmoral Hotel in Moffat as a waiter. I helped to take orders and distributed the food amongst the diners. I also washed dishes and cleaned the tables. I left work, however, to dedicate more time to my studies I would consider myself to be responsible and possess good leadership qualities due to my position in the school Pupil Council. This also entails being reliable, honest and trustworthy as the people of the school look to me to carry their opinions and ideas forward In conclusion, I feel that, together with my enthusiasm and commitment to school and the History course I am currently participating in, my experience and skill in this subject will stand me in good stead to take History at University and also, of course, to succeed and get the most out of it.
