Law Personal StatementMy interest in Law has been developing over the past three years. I have always regarded the legal profession as one of the most important in society, involved with people from infancy to old age, and indeed, beyond the grave. To assist my decision on career choice I requested 2 separate opportunities of work experience in a firm of local solicitors. This provided me with two weeks exposure to live legal practice which I found fascinating and deeply rewarding. Because of this first hand experience and because I believe I have the necessary intellectual ability I have placed a career in the legal profession as my first career choice. I understand the legal education and training is intellectually demanding and requires the student to get to grips with hitherto unexplained subjects and concepts. I have had some experience of this recently, as 2 of my A Level subjects i.e. Government & Politics and Economics, were new areas of study for me. I found this challenging but also rewarding, as it requires me to discipline myself in order to understand and process large volumes of new intellectual material. I believe this experience would assist me in being effective a course of legal studies. I am an outgoing, inquisitive person by nature and I enjoy healthy debate both inside and outside my formal education. I am clear and articulate in speech and writing and enjoy collaborative work with others. This comes to the fore in my part time employment as a waitress in a local hotel. Responsibility for food service at functions is often delegated to me as team leader of a team of waitresses. This requires me to communicate clearly and effectively with my colleagues and also members of the public, which I enjoy. As an active member of my school community I participate in the senior choir and orchestra. I am also a member of the school bank and a senior prefect with responsibility for a class of form five. In fourth form I was elected by class prefect by my peers. Outside of school I am a member of the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and have played with the orchestra throughout Ireland and in Rome and the United States. I enjoy travelling abroad and have been to France and Spain and am looking forward to a trip to China with the Orchestra next year. Previously I was a member of the SELB South Ulster String Ensemble. I have an interest in the Irish language and am studying it for A Level. At GCSE level I was awarded a CCEA prize for achieving full marks in the assessment, and subsequently placed first in Northern Ireland. I also hold a certificate of linguistic proficiency (Mean Teastas) from the leading Gaeltacht Irish College in Rannafast, Co. Donegal. I believe I am a dependable and reliable individual and this has been reflected through full attendance awards at my school in 4th and 5th form. CommentsGeneral Comments:Comments on the statement: |
