Mathematics and Business Personal Statement

I am currently studying A Levels in Mathematics and Business Studies

I chose to study Mathematics at this level because I have always shown great aptitude for the subject and I enjoy the challenges it presents

I am particularly competent with algebraic manipulation and I have really liked learning new topics such as calculus

Mathematics, as a subject, suits my style of learning because I have an analytic mind and enjoy problem solving. This is also the reason why I chose Business Studies

Business Studies allows me to tackle real life problems and gain an insight into running a business. My favourite aspect of the course is Finance. In this module I am able to apply some of the mathematics I have studied and see its application in the real world

I am also studying AS Level Statistics and AS VCE in Information and Communications Technology. My statistics course is especially useful in the Marketing module of Business Studies. I enjoy being able to manipulate and interpret data in many ways

During my ICT studies, I have learnt spreadsheet programming including VBA. I like the way that all the subjects I study interconnect. ICT has applications in most modern situations but spreadsheets are especially useful In Business Studies and Mathematics

I am looking to pursue these subjects further at university. My ideal course would be Mathematics based with elements of Business Studies and ICT included. After finishing my degree I plan to enrol on the Graduate Teacher Programme and gain Qualified Teaching Status. I want to pursue a career in teaching, preferably in the secondary sector teaching mathematics

I would be very suited to a career in teaching as I have a pleasant and patient nature and great enthusiasm for mathematics. I have had a lot of experience dealing with younger students during this year's Summer Numeracy School where I was employed as a Teaching Assistant. I have also taken part in a befriending scheme at school. This involved helping the new Year 7 pupils settle into their new environment. Last year I visited several local primary schools to engage the pupils in a 'Bridge Building' project

I also have had considerable experience working with the public while working at Sainsbury's. I usually work in the customer service department assisting customers and dealing with complaints and compliments

In my spare time, I am a keen reader. I especially like reading biographies. I also enjoy playing badminton and swimming, although due to my study commitments I rarely get the opportunity

I am looking forward to studying at your institution and contributing to a variety of clubs and societies. I have an outgoing personality and I am excited about the prospect of participating fully in university life.
