Personal Statement:Medicine 11
From The Student RoomTSR Wiki > Applications > Personal Statement Library > Personal Statement:Medicine 11 Medicine Personal StatementLearning about the human body when in health and disease, coupled with a desire to help people, are my main reasons for wanting to be involved in the medical profession. I have tried to systematically develop as great an understanding of this subject as possible As medicine is a unique combination of science, teamwork and problem solving, I feel that this is the best career path for me. This decision was finalised during my attendance at Medlink and Medsim courses and also during my various work experiences My time spent in hospitals and surgeries allowed me to explore all the different aspects of healthcare. My experiences with in the various branches of medicine have showed me how effectively medicine combines my main interests along with my main qualities. My desire to help people was fuelled during my visits to patient's home, during my practise of patient consultance during the Medsim Course and my work experience in the local hospital where I witnessed various routines including a cardiac arrest. I feel that the medical course will not only exploit my communication skills but also my practical skills, I discovered this during my attempt at keyhole surgery and suture I found that my time spent at these work placements was one of the most rewarding experiences as I have come to understand and appreciate the importance of health and patient care My long-standing interest in medicine was fostered further by my placement. During my work experience it became apparent to me that medicine needs a caring, dedicated and committed approach alongside the ability to communicate with others and work as part of a team. I feel that all I have had a chance to develop all these skills during my role as a Millennium Volunteer, a House Leader, a prefect and as a Listener where the students have set up an anti-bullying scheme for younger children Working part-time as a shoe fitter at Russell and Bromley gave me an opportunity to work in a team and along with different people. My main interests include salsa dancing and cooking. My other interests include watching foreign films which allow me to develop my skills in Indian languages I have contributed to school activities throughout my school career. I have been involved in school productions, house activities, sports teams for hockey and rounders Much of my free time has been taken up by The Duke of Edinburgh Award In order to achieve my Bronze and Silver Award I have completed a Baby Sitting Course, a First Aid course. During the year, I was also heavily involved in the Young Enterprise Scheme where I played the role of Managing Director. This venture has not only been successful due to its profits but has also been a major factor in increasing my confidence levels The scheme had allowed me to practice my leadership skills that I had gained from completing the Junior Sports Leaders Award and also the Harrogate Community Works Project. Through this project, I am given the opportunity to help the local community with a budget of GBP500. I am currently working with a local Marie Curie unit to increase this amount to provide more funding, I am also hoping to use some of the money to help people in other countries by providing free surgery for some essential operations. I have also been a Cadet at the 1942 ATC Squadron for 3 years where I had reached the rank of a senior cadet Each of these commitments has enriched my life in many different ways, shaping me into a well-rounded person. They have provided me with skills which I will need not only in my chosen career but also during my life at university. Comments |
