Science Personal Statement

I left School in February 1977 and moved from Wales to England and I did not have the opportunity to accomplish any qualifications. After leaving school I started work, got married and looked after my family

However, now my children have grown up I have returned to education to gain my qualifications. I set my goals earlier last year by joining the Pre-Access Course at West Nottinghamshire College and gained 6 credits at level 2. In September 2001 I enrolled on a G.C.S.E course and I achieved the grades B C and D in English, Biology and Chemistry respectively. I have also done some voluntary work in laboratories working alongside the laboratory technician, preparing solutions and sterile pertri dishes

My previous work experience ranged from bar work to receptionist duties, which helped me acquire the skills of working within a team and improved my communication skills. It also gave me the experience of coping with different people and personalities. I have helped to teach my children to read and write which taught me the virtues of patience and how to listen. Finally, being a wife, mother and student has taught me how to manage the demands of my studies alongside the demands of family life and how to prioritise my workload

I have always had a strong desire to work in the field of sciences this has been enhanced whilst completing a G.C.S.E course. In particular I enjoyed the units within cell Biology that involved the study of the immune system and microorganisms. I am fully committed to my present course I enjoy my studies immensely, particularly the Biology and Chemistry units I am a mature and independent learner and given a task I complete it before the deadline. I am highly motivated and meticulous with a strong determination to succeed. The more I study these subjects the more passionate my interest for these subjects become

At the moment I am learning to drive, which I really enjoy. My social life is important to me and I like to relax with my family. My studies have introduced me to the Internet and I like to 'surf the net' in my spare time. I like to cook and I enjoy reading books especially Stephen King novels and books in the horror genre.
