Sixth Form Personal Statement

I currently attend Langley Park School, the GCSE subjects I am taking are Art, Biology, Chemistry, Design Technology-Graphics, English Literature, English Language, IT Key skills and History. I hope to achieve high grades and continue at this school to complete my AS/A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and using my grades to complete my education at University in the future

Since I started at this school I have developed some of my abilities, I have gained more self confidence, I have become more independent and I will try my hardest to complete a difficult task. I like to have responsibility as it helps me to become more reliable. I like to be honest and I am trustworthy

At the beginning of Year 8 I joined the school hockey team and I have been a devoted member since which earned the team several trophies and awards for winning tournaments. I enjoy playing all team sports especially tennis and hockey and I find playing matches in particular very rewarding. I like to work in a team as I work with other people effectively, or on my own, although sometimes I prefer more to set tasks for myself and complete them independently

I like to be involved in charity events where I can help, I have helped to organise some charity events in the past at school

I have been elected Sports Captain and am currently Form Captain which includes many responsibilities, including being spokesperson for the form and running errands from my experiences I have learnt to become more responsible and reliable as I represent my form

Away from school my interests are; Photography, where I take and print photographs in my own darkroom and occasionally from a digital camera and computer, Music, I played the piano up to Grade 5, Reading, I like to read all genres of books especially biographies and science-fiction and Gardening which I am also interested in the biology of plants and animals

In September I completed two weeks of Work Experience at a local business which sell pond products and give advice on building gardens

I found work experience to be a valuable time in which I learnt about diseases in fish, water conditions which need to be checked constantly I also performed lots of physical work when not in the office which I like as I find myself to be quite active when I enjoy physical challenges as well. I also made friends there who I get along with as I found working with them enjoyable and they taught me how to run the shop and helped me when I asked

Being involved in a busy shop allowed me to speak with customers and test diseases of the fish that customers brought in to be checked

These tasks allowed me to develop my skills to manage others, problem solve, work independently, listen and speak. The experience and knowledge I have gained through working there should prove useful in my biology lessons as I have learnt about the anatomy of a fish which may help me to understand in more detail other aspects of biology. I enjoyed work experience very much and they have offered me a part-time job there.
