Sixth Form Personal Statement

I am very interested in joining Northampton School for Boys. This interest has developed over the past two years, when I have attended both open evenings. I have always been impressed with the schools outstanding reputation and achievement, and this is something I would love the opportunity to contribute to and continue

I was very pleased to find out that NSB offered the courses I am interested in. Graphic Design and Art have been a keen interest of mine for a long time, and while looking at sixth form entries I was highly recommended to visit NSB as a successful and positive place to study Art. I was also very impressed by the standard and quality of work on display when I visited the school

Along with Art, I have a lot of interest in the Performing Arts. I have been involved in various vocal ensembles and choirs through my current school, and have entered several competitions with these choirs. Last year, a small group of 15, including myself, entered the Sainsbury's Choir of the Year national competition, and were highly commended in our category

For years I have entered the local performing Arts competition, the Kettering and District Eisteddfod. I have won several classes including Original Writing aged 15 and Under, Group Acting aged 14 and Under and Group Acting aged 15 and under

Another of my interests is being actively involved in councils and decision-making environments. I was an active member of the Kettering Borough Student Council for two years, and I am currently a member of my school council. When I heard about the 'energetic and effective' council at NSB, I was instantly keen to hear more and I feel this is something I would benefit greatly from, and I would be a valuable member of

I will shortly have completed my Silver Duke Of Edinburgh award, after completing the Bronze in July last year. The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme has been a very challenging personal achievement, which I thoroughly enjoyed

I have also recently taken up a form of self-defence called Jeet Kune Do, which I became interested in after participating in a short self-defence course with my school

I feel that the self-defence is a great way to keep fit and have fun

Along with the self-defence, I also participate in step-aerobics and gym classes, as I feel my health and fitness is very important to me

After 6th Form, I am very eager to attend a top university to continue my studies. I feel that NSB's reputation for students attending their first choice university is excellent. This was an important factor to me when considering my choice of 6th Form

My ideas for my future career are concentrated on Art-based Graphic Design. I am currently considering two avenues within this. The first is focusing on advertising and marketing. The other is based around film design and media. I feel these careers would suit me and would utilise my skills and strengths. I am determined to develop these skills through my time at 6th form in order to be successful at university and beyond

Throughout the two years I have been studying for my GCSE's, I have achieved Merit awards in most subjects and I have been awarded certificates for high attendance. I am a very determined person, and work hard to achieve my goals
