Why Study Government and Politics?

If you're interested in how the country is run then AS politics is for you. If you're interested in Politics globally and its relations with the UK then A2 is for you.

Course Structure

Edexcel Government and Politics AS

Unit 1: 1 hour, 2 questions, 30 minutes per question. Question structure is a) 5 points, b) 15 points, c) 30 points.

Topics are: Political parties, pressure groups, democracy, elections and referenda. Answer two questions, one on each of these.

Unit 2: 1 hour, 2 questions, 30 minutes per question. Question structure is a) 5 points, b) 15 points, c) 30 points.

Topics: The Constitution, The Judiciary, The Core-Executive and Parliament. Answer two questions, one on each of these.

Unit 3: 1 hour, 1 question. Structure: a) 5 points (response to source), b) 10 points (response to stimulus and own knowledge), c) 15 points (own knowledge), d) 20 points (own knowledge).

Topics: Parliamentary reform, electoral reform, Devolution, the EU.
