Credibility of Evidence

  • Reputation
  • Ability to Observe
  • Selectivity - Which points are chosen to represent a point?
  • Vested interests (Anything personal at stake)
  • Expertise
  • Neutrality – Objective point of view
  • Bias for or against
  • Relevance
  • Significance – Does it assume anything?

PROVENANCE

  • Appearance
  • Circumstance
  • Relations / Importance

CONTENT

  • What is being said
  • How it's being said

Are they EXPLICIT or INFERRED statements?

  • What is being said?
  • What is the purpose of the statement?
  • Were they well informed?
  • Were the bias for or against the point?
  • How subjective or objective is it?
  • What education has the witness received on the matter?
  • Who is saying this?
  • When? What is the date?
  • Why is it being said?
  • How reliable is the witness?

The internet it the most unselective source as there is such a large proportion of view points
